Google’s Android 6.0 operating system has been out for a while and it’s already found its way to various devices, mainly flagships by different companies. As usual, Google were among the first to get the new version out on their own devices, but other companies have been following suit and we’re currently seeing Android 6.0 Marshmallow rolling out on various phones, tablets and other gadgets all over the market.
Most recently, we’ve heard news that Motorola are making progress with their own devices and the company has been pushing out the new Android version to various phones of theirs, and now users of several devices from the Moto line have access to Android 6.0. This includes Motorola Moto X 2014 and 2015, as well as several editions of the Moto G – more specifically, the 2nd and 3rd generations of the device. All in all, the situation is mostly as one would expect it, as the company is pushing out the update to their most important devices.
The Moto G3 in particular was expected to get Android 6.0 very soon, and the company managed to live up to expectations and they’re now getting ready for a more massive rollout. They are also apparently looking to upgrade some of their older phones to the newest version of the operating system, and they reportedly have quite the roadmap lined up.
Currently, there is some confusion over when exactly different devices by the company are going to get Android 6.0, and as usual there is no clear specification for the different dates, but users are advised to keep checking for new updates periodically, and to make sure that their devices meet the baseline requirements for updating to Android 6.0.
In some cases, this includes making some specific software updates or settings changes, but in general Google have ensured that the distribution of the update is relatively straightforward and hassle-free on both end. This means that users should also have an easy time getting the new OS version on their devices, and with each version of Android, things have been getting simpler and simpler in this regard.
We don’t know what devices will be covered by the new update exactly, as there is some confusion in the community over the exact range of Motorola hardware that’s going to get Android 6.0. Motorola themselves are keeping somewhat quiet on the issue and they aren’t commenting on it much, so we don’t know what the company is really planning.
They have been trying to communicate with their users about their ideas to some extent, but for the most part they are maintaining a more secretive approach. We certainly can’t blame them, considering that the Android market loves to speculate and the community is always looking for rumors to latch on to. It’s much better if Motorola only speak about their updates when they have something more concrete to say, and hopefully that’s going to be soon.
In the meantime, there are always alternatives for those who want to get the latest Android version but their devices haven’t been added to the official distribution lists yet. The solution is to go for a custom ROM that should be made available for different devices at various points in time. This is pretty typical for the Android community, and it’s not rare that we see older phones kept up to date with new Android versions thanks to the work of custom ROM developers.
