Fans of the original “Prometheus” will have to wait at least another year for the sequel, as so far it’s planned to come out in 2016. However, more details about the movie are becoming available, so the wait might not be entirely boring. There’s a lot that can be speculated on with regards to the new movie’s plot, cast and overall direction, and there has been no shortage of rumors about the production of “Prometheus 2” either.
It’ll be curious to see what direction the movie is taken in, considering a recent claim made by Ridley Scott, its director, who said that he’s not going to include xenomorphs in any more of his movies. If “Prometheus 2” picks up the same story and continues where the original left off, this would clash with the director’s claims, so fans have been speculating that the new film will see a departure in its plot, and head in a new direction.
Ridley Scott himself has come out and given some hints about what can be expected from the new film, saying that it will be more focused on a personal, human story, and will give a more detailed insight into the journey of Elisabeth Shaw. Even though Dr. Shaw’s actress was asked a straight question about the new villain that will be put against the protagonist in the sequel, she didn’t give a direct answer. All she said was that “God” could be put in the role of a villain, although it’s not clear if that was a serious statement or if she was joking.
However, given the nature and premise of the show, this response might actually be completely serious, and an actual hint about the upcoming sequel. It could also have been meant in a metaphoric way, as the definition of “God” could be very flexible when interpreted by the film’s directors.
According to director Ridley Scott, the film is still in the early stages of its production, and the writers are still juggling around ideas for the exact plot. Once that is finalized, the movie will enter its actual filming stage, but until then, the studio has a few other details to sort out. The cast still has to be finalized, and there have apparently been recent changes to the actor line-up. This is not unusual for a film which is already in the scriptwriting stage, and it’s expected that the studio will announce details about the cast in a few months. The production of “Prometheus 2” has been following a very open style so far, with lots of communication with the fans, so it’s expected that new information will be released at various points throughout the production.
