Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zero to Offer Full Controller Support on PC, Framerate Locked at 60 FPS!

Fans of “Metal Gear Solid” who have been waiting for the fifth installment in the series are about to get some mixed news – both good and bad – at least if they play on the PC. There hasn’t been much new information about the game related to its console versions, but the developers just came out with some news about the PC version of the new MGS – and according to them, fans have reasons to be excited, as well as potential reasons for disappointment.

First, the good news – fans who have been worried that they will be forced to play with a keyboard and mouse can relax, as it has been confirmed that the game will support gamepads on the PC. However, the game will not support any special features for Dualshock 3/4 controllers. Gamepads models will share the same functionality on the PC, so your Dualshock 4 will offer the same features as an Xbox controller.

On the other hand, there have been some worrying developments about the game. According to the studio, “Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zero” will be locked at 60 frames per second on the PC. Reactions to that announcement have been mixed. On one hand, people have been stating that 60 FPS is more than enough for a smooth gameplay experience.

However, it’s been known for quite some time that this is not the case – while it’s questionable how much of a difference there is between 60 FPS and 100 FPS with regards to what the human eye can see, it’s important to remember that games also process their input on a per-frame basis. Which, in turn, means that an increase in framerate means a more responsive game, with no limitations to that. In a game like MGS, where precise reactions are important if the players wants to stay concealed, it will be critical that the game is made to feel fluid and smooth.

There’s almost exactly one month until the game comes out on the PC, and it will be distributed through Valve’s Steam platform. Players who are concerned about the potential framerate issues are advised to wait until after the release date, as Steam user reviews tend to give a good picture about a game’s worth. If there are any noticeable problems, those should be made quite obvious at the store page of the game. Until then, it’s expected that we’ll see some more information about the game in forms of teasers or interviews, so keen fans should keep an eye out. It’s going to be a busy month for MGS fans, and the end of December should be full of excitement if everything comes together properly.
