TV shows come and go, and often they are forgotten a few weeks after concluding the final episode. However, sometimes we see a more unique case of a show that manages to make a real impact on viewers and stays relevant for a lot longer, inspiring discussions, arguments and speculation about its future. When the first season of “Rick and Morty” was over, it was clear that this was no ordinary show and that its producers have something very unique in their minds.
And the second season only solidified these ideas as it showed an even more interesting insight into the show’s characters, pushing the story forward successfully and bringing even more interesting developments to the screen. Now that this season is over, fans have been wondering what they can expect from the next episodes of the show when they arrive, and what the producers might be planning for the future.
At least this time there’s no aura of uncertainty around the production like with the transition between the first two seasons, as the third season was already confirmed and ordered before season 2 concluded. The producers even threw in a little joke about the slow pace of the show’s development (or rather, the approval they’ve been getting from the network) at the end of season 2, although some fans took it the wrong way and seemingly got worried about the future of their favorite production.
The stories in season 2 seemed to take the show even deeper and made it even more dramatic and involved, particularly focusing on some of the darker storylines with some characters. Every character on the screen was expanded significantly, even Jerry who was generally seen as a “filler” character without too much substance to him.
The season even had its own really dark episode which made fans think for a while, and that episode alone generated a lot of discussion on the Internet, to the point where the producers brought back the character from that episode for the final segment of the season. We don’t know if that character will actually have any implications on the story in the future, but it’s entirely possible that the writers of the show are planning something more complex for him. It would certainly be in their style.
But for now, they have plenty of material to work with when it comes to side characters, and the show has managed to introduce plenty of supporting faces on the screen with various functions in the story that have made the overall plot very complex and involved. Rick has made many friends over the course of his adventures, and Morty can probably brag in the same way to some extent too. With that in mind, fans have been wondering which of those characters is going to come to Rick’s rescue in season 3 once it arrives to the screen, and there are many possibilities that sound equally plausible, so it’s really hard to tell right now.
Knowing the style of this show’s writers though, we expect that the final answer will be completely unexpected and will come by surprise to fans. After all, it won’t make much sense for them to be so predictable and to basically give the story to their fans before the episode has even aired. Plus, now is the time for them to do something even more interesting with the story and introduce new elements to it that will really shake things up for future installments.
