Season 6 of the British period drama TV series “Downton Abbey” will premiere on PBS on January 3 and fans can expect resolution from all the burning questions and loose ends of the show in the course of five seasons.
Jessica Fellowes, a niece of “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes, says that every cast member and production staff knows that Season 6, being the final one for the critically-acclaimed TV series, will be the season of resolution, notes the New York Daily News.
She said that the TV series will guarantee that there will be no stone left unturned and every fan of the show will get a sense of ending eventually.
Jessica is the author of the brand new coffee table book “Downton Abbey” based on the TV series. She says that the book is a must-have for fans who can’t get enough of the popular period drama.
What fans can expect
Fans should expect to see Mr. Carson, played by Jim Carter, and Mrs. Hughes, played by Phyllis Logan, getting married in Season 6, Jessica said.
Jessica says that drama surrounding the two veteran characters is certainly the funniest thing that viewers would see on television especially when they see the hotel’s cook Beryl Patmore, played by Lesley Nicol, becoming the sex counselor for the two.
She also added that fans could also see Bates, played by Brendan Coyle, and Anna, played by Joanne Froggatt, continue to look for their eternal bliss.
Jessica said that the problem is that Brendan and Anna are very good and decent people. She says that his uncle needed to throw obstacles to these very good and decent people and show viewers how they manage to overcome life’s difficulties.
In addition, Lady Mary Crawley, played by Michelle Dockery, will continue to have her suitors come Season 6. But she is the type of lady who does not put a premium on popularity. It will be interesting to find out if she will eventually get her real romance in Season 6.
Dining room drama
Meanwhile, Zap2it revealed that the dining room scenes of “Downton Abbey” can actually go on a whole day during the filming.
Actress Penelope Wilton, who plays Lady Isobel Crawley, disclosed that there can be 22 people sitting around the table and everyone has to have re-lighting.
She disclosed that the filming is too long that the food that is put in front of the actors at 8 o’clock in the morning looks appetizing but by 8 o’clock in the evening, it makes them feel nauseous already.
Hugh Bonneville, who plays Robert Crawley in “Downton Abbey,” seconds the opinion of Penelope, when he said that he has spent something like five months non-stop in the dining room if one is to add all his scenes together.
Meanwhile, Mr. Carson is one of the fan-favorite characters of “Downton Abbey” whose sixth and final season has already aired on iTV in the United Kingdom on September 20.
Fans and viewers of the popular TV series were happy seeing that the official trailer of “Downton Abbey” Season 6 actually highlighted the secret romance of Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes.
Whatever doom and gloom that “Downton Abbey” has, it is often relieved by the light moments of humor courtesy of the elderly pair, who resemble awkward teenagers when trying to approach the subject of sex ahead of their wedding.
Mrs. Hughes is actually worried about consummating their marriage because she has waited all her life to find her Mr. Right and she has enlisted the support of cook Mrs. Patmore to talk with her fiancé on her behalf.
Watching the elderly couple experiencing how they fumble around the topic of intimacy is already the certified fan-favorite moments of the sixth and final season of “Downton Abbey.”
