Sony Xperia Z6 to Jump on the Bandwagon of Force Touch-Enabled Smartphones, More Details

The Sony Xperia Z5 has just been released last month but talks about the upcoming flagship smartphone of the Japanese tech giant, the Sony Xperia Z6, have been going around the internet as if the device would be coming out very soon.

If Sony will stick to its usual six-month market cycle for its flagship smartphone, then it is likely that the Japanese tech company would launch the Xperia Z6 in March next year before it officially makes it to the global retail markets in April.

However, what’s making the buzz as of late regarding the Xperia Z6 is that the upcoming Sony flagship smartphone will jump on the bandwagon of using the pressure-sensitive display that was already introduced by Apple and Huawei this year. In addition to Sony, Samsung is reported to be adopting the technology in its upcoming devices, reports Ubergizmo.

Sony shall reportedly incorporate its own version of a pressure-sensitive display but unlike Apple and Huawei, which rely on third party suppliers like Synaptics for the specific screen component, the Japanese tech giant is planning to produce its own Force Touch technology.

According to Mobipicker, the strategy to use Force Touch technology would be a great revival move for Sony, which has been suffering from significant losses in the smartphone market this year.

The infusion of the technology will also give a fresh boost to the Xperia series, which is having a hard time keeping up with the other flagship smartphone series of other big name tech companies.

While there have been plenty of rumors regarding the specifications and features of the Sony Xperia Z6, what stands out is that it shall be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which means that it is to be a powerful flagship smartphone.

Its predecessor, the Snapdragon 810 processor, may have issues with overheating, but it seems that Qualcomm has addressed the problem on the Snapdragon 820 SoC by using the 14 nm process.

Rumored specifications and features

According to rumors, the Sony Xperia Z6 shall have a 5.5-inch IPS Triluminos display with 4K resolution because the Xperia Z5 already features the same display resolution already.

Sony will also be using a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for the display to ensure both its protection and durability.

With its 4K capability, the Xperia Z6 is also capable of shooting 4K videos at a framerate of 60 frames per second or 30 frames per second wirelessly, notes the Android Standard.

The device’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor is likely to contain 4 Custom Kryo Cores clocked at 3GHz. It shall be able to support LTE-U band of 4G as well as 3G and 2G. It will also be backed by an Adreno 530 GPU, to make it 40% more efficient than the Sony Xperia Z5.

With such specifications, users of the Xperia Z6 can get download speeds of up to 600 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

Indicative of how fast the upcoming Sony flagship smartphone would be, it is also reported to boast of a 4GB of RAM and internal storage variants beginning at 32GB. It is still unclear whether the smartphone will an option for storage expansion through a microSD card slot.

Superb camera

Sony has been highly regarded for the cameras of its smartphones and the Xperia Z6 may not disappoint as reports have it that it will be debuting the first-of-its-kind 30-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual LED flash.
