“Supernatural” has a pretty good set of episodes in its current 11th season, and fans have been quite happy with the overall direction of the show so far. It looks like the producers have some very specific ideas for how they want to continue the production and they have been moving things in that direction slowly but steadily. Darkness will play a major role in the next episodes from what it seems, and of course Sam and Dean are the only ones who can put an end to it.
There have been some rumors that the two brothers could end up fighting because of the effects of the Darkness on their mentality, but hopefully this won’t be anything serious and we’ll see them reconciling and coming out from the whole disaster stronger than before. After all, we’ve already seen the brothers going through some difficult times together and making it out successfully, so we have no doubt that they are going to handle this situation as well.
Castiel is also going to play a major role in some upcoming episodes from what we’ve been able to tell, but we don’t know the exact nature of his involvement in the story. It’s been rumored that he’ll have something to do with the conflict between the two brothers, possibly even helping them out once things get too difficult, but we don’t know if that’s true or if the writers are planning something entirely different for him.
But what exactly is going to happen that will drive such a wedge between the two characters? According to reports, the Darkness is going to subtly creep into the relationships between the brothers and possibly even people around them, and it will affect the way they are acting towards each other very strongly. There will be lots of lying and deception, and people will become very suspicious of one another, to the point where things will start falling apart completely, as it was put by someone directly involved with the production.
It’s been said that Castiel himself will have some secrets that he’s hiding from the brothers, but it’s not very clear if that’s a one-way street or not – it’s possible that the brothers are also hiding something from him in return, and this could quickly lead to a messy situation where everyone lacks any trust in the others. That’s something that could easily set this season up for a dramatic conclusion and possibly even some more permanent drama between some characters.
According to some critics, the storyline with Castiel is intentionally thrown in by the writers as a way of balancing his character and making him feel less overpowered in the context of the entire story. This has apparently been a slight problem for the show since Castiel was introduced, as the writers have had to put a lot of effort into keeping him in check and preventing him from addressing every issue that comes up in an easy way.
Because of this, his character has been a bit questionable to fans at times, but people have grown to like him and we’ve been seeing more and more positivity towards Castiel from the audience after some time passed. Currently, he’s one of the favorite characters of many fans and it’s likely that the producers will do even more with him in the future in order to maintain the high level of interest towards his presence on the show.
While Cas (and Misha Collins) both have a lot of fans – and deservedly so – I think it might be an overestimate to say that the show is no longer about the two brothers, or that the producers intend it to be so. Anyone who has followed the chatter from the cons, particularly SDCC, knows that the producers’ and the two leads’ major comment for months has been “It’s about the brothers. This season is all about the brothers. We’re going back to it being all about the brothers.”
