Nintendo has come with the first of the two DLCs for Mario Kart 8. Downloadable content or DLC is the best way for the game developers and publishers to make money. Unlike the parent game that is scrutinised closely by the players and critics, these DLCs slip through without much fanfare.
The first DLC for Mario Kart 8 is The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8. Nintendo has previously released DLCs for Mario, like Mario Golf: World Tour and New Super Luigi U. Mario Kart 8 is, however, a little different.
This is the first of the two-pack DLC set for Mario Kart 8. The second one is going to be out in May this year. If you buy both the packs, the price is cheaper, and you get more characters, vehicles and tracks. The DLC for Mario Kart 8 is way cheaper than what they are usually priced at. They are £7 each or £11 for both.
Link from The Legend of Zelda is the first time that a non-Mario character has been introduced in Nintendo. His is a heavy character and comes with all the voice cues and uses his sword and Triforce tricks easily. The vehicles introduced are the Tanooki Kart, B Dasher and the Master Cycle, that is Zelda themed. The Master Cycle is similar to Espona, Link’s horse.
The lighting and graphics are superb. There have been small little changes in the course. Mario Kart 8: The Legend of Zelda DLC has removed the vertical drops and has instead come up with a speed boost when the vehicles bump against mine carts.
The courses are pretty interesting. The retro courses do not use Mario Kart 8’s anti gravity features. There are three different Rainbow Road courses in the game. This is the most interesting addition in this Mario Kart DLC. The first of the new courses is the Ice Ice Outpost. As the name suggests, it is not a slippery ice track. There is an icy background, but the track is just a narrow one with numerous turns.
Hyrule Circuit is the best circuit. It is detailed, and players can race through Zelda’s castle and cross Hyrule Field. If the players hit the Three Crystals before with the Master Sword, a ramp appears allowing the players to jump over it. The course features the Zelda discovery sound effect.
For players who have enjoyed Mario Kart 8, this is a must have. The track design is similar to the one in the main game, but it adds new features. The new content is sure to keep the players occupied until the second DLC comes out on May next year.
