“Grand Theft Auto” is undeniably the most popular franchise by Rockstar, and the company has been putting a lot of effort into its development and marketing. However, it’s not the only game series by the studio that has managed to captivate a large audience, as “Red Dead Redemption” quickly built up a cult following after its release, with fans continuing to actively discuss the game to this day.
The company has not mentioned their western-themed game recently, even after fans have inquired about the future of the series, but a recent post on an online forum may indicate that things are about to change. Allegedly written by an employee of Rockstar themselves, the post indicates that a sequel to the game is currently being worked on, and it’s actually the most active project for the studio’s developers right now.
The game is actually quite far ahead in its development, according to the leak, and is planned to be released in late 2015, possibly sometime after E3. On that note, the studio is expected to announce and showcase the game at the 2015 E3, possibly allowing fans to play it shortly. What’s more interesting is that the game is allegedly coming out for the PC as well, instead of being a console exclusive. This is a fantastic counter to recent speculation that Rockstar might be moving in the direction of developing for consoles entirely, something that was fueled by the recent release of “Grand Theft Auto 5” and the lack of news about its potential PC port.
It’s not the first time “Red Dead Redemption 2” has popped up on the radar though, as a few months ago it was revealed that the original game is listed in a compatibility database for Microsoft’s consoles and operating systems. Back then, no comments were made by either Microsoft or Rockstar themselves, and fans were unable to get any more information about the possibility of the sequel being in development. Since that revelation, the scene surrounding the game has been mostly quiet, although some fans have been trying hard to get more information about the game through different channels.
Other rumors indicate that Rockstar are indeed working on a sequel for one of their franchises right now, but it’s actually not “Red Dead Redemption”. There aren’t that many alternative possibilities – “Manhunt” and “Bully” are pretty much the only other franchises that the studio might have an interest in developing, and right now both seem as unlikely options compared to “Red Dead Redemption”. Rockstar have expressed interest in continuing “Manhunt” in the past, although they said that this project is a long time away and it will be a while before it’s even started.
