When American tech giant Apple dared anyone to try and crack their latest operating system, iOS 9 following its official release in the middle of last month, Chinese hacking crew Pangu Team was up to the challenge. Pangu was actually able to jailbreak the latest iOS in less than a month, the quickest jailbreak made on an iOS firmware update to date.
Last October 14, the team released their jailbreak tool to which multiple users have it working already on their Apple devices. Now, the team has finally released a Mac and Windows version of the jailbreak tool to its website en.pangu.io.
This means that users of Apple devices such as iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad can now jailbreak their devices running on iOS 9.0 to iOS 9.0.2 using Windows or OS X. The iOS 9 jailbreak tool for Mac works exactly like the Windows version.
According to ijailbreak, the Windows jailbreak tool was added a few weeks before the Mac jailbreak tool was made available.
One of the biggest downsides of the initial jailbreak tool was the lack of a Mac version so users could only jailbreak their iPhones and iPads on a Windows PC which required more work and time.
The iOS 9 features an effective preview of the 3D Touch feature which was introduced in the iPhone 6S. The iFile has become a plus for jailbroken iPhones as it gives users the ability to access root files.
The Verge notes that another tweak the iOS 9 jailbreak offers is Forcy. It carries out Quick Action feature on previous iPhone models. Other tweaks include the Virtual Home, iCleaner which optimizes Apple devices, the Universal Force, and Live Photos.
Tutorials of how to jailbreak an Apple device are already up on many websites. Idownloadblog.com, for example, shares a step by step procedure on how to jailbreak Apple devices.
Although, if one’s device is already jailbroken and the user has upgraded to iOS 9, iPhone FAQ suggests that he or she can simply install the latest Pangu 9.0 x Untether from Cydia.
After that, the user can launch Cydia and a notification should appear regarding the update. He or she just needs to install the update then reboot the phone and the device is already jailbroken.
Along with the Mac version, the latest update includes an updated version for the Windows jailbreak tool. The latest version includes the 1.1.26 update of the Cydia Installer which fixes the Manage Storage bug that was affecting some users.
Since the initial release, the Pangu Team has rolled out three updates to resolve minor bugs and other issues causing problems with the jailbreak tools.
Unfortunately, Pangu for Mac can only be used to jailbreak all iOS 9-compatible devices running iOS 9, iOS 9.0.1, and iOS 9.0.2. At this time, iOS 9.1 jailbreak has yet to be released.
As per Value Walk, there have been some issues with the iOS 9 jailbreak. Apparently, iPhones cannot connect to the iTunes store despite the jailbreak process running smoothly.
Reviews on the latest jailbreak reveal that some iPhones were automatically signed out of their iTunes account and weren’t able to download apps, music, as well as stream songs in Apple Music.
Luckily, tech geeks have found a way to easily resolve it. Some tech experts say that handsets experiencing the problem should reboot their iPhones while disabling the Mobile Substrate and that should do the trick.
Jailbreaking a gadget means users break the security of iOS. While it promises to let them load up their iOS device with an array of free applications, many of these apps are pirated or contain malware.
As a matter of fact, recent reports reveal that iOS malware has been specifically targeted at jailbroken Apple devices.
According to Techno Buffalo, users with a stock install of iOS are far less likely to be hacked because Apple has greatly secured the platform.
