‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 to Mark the Return of Many Familiar Faces!

Aside from the anticipation that Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow might rise from the dead, the House of Tully will get a reunion when “Game of Thrones” returns for its sixth season on HBO next year.

Edmure Tully, played by Tobias Menzies, has been confirmed to return on the upcoming season of the HBO series. The 41-year-old actor was spotted filming on the Riverrun set, Watchers on the Wall claims.

Edmure is the younger brother of Michelle Fairley’s Catelyn Stark. The character was last seen back in Season 3’s Red Wedding where he married Roslin Frey, played by Alexandra Dowling.

Unfortunately, Tully was held captive during the Red Wedding’s bloodbath where Catelyn’s son Robb Stark, portrayed by Richard Madden, and her daughter-in-law, Talisa, played by Oona Chaplin, were brutally murdered by the Freys in connivance with the Boltons and the Lannisters.

Menzies’ return comes after confirmation that Clive Russel, who played Brynden ‘Blackfish’ Tully, will also reprise his knight character this season. Brynden, who is Catelyn and Edmure’s uncle, was last seen in Season 3 after he escaped the events of the Red Wedding.

With spoilers and set leaks pointing to a major storyline focusing on Riverrun, it’s likely that events from the George R. R. Martin’s fourth, fifth, and the sixth novel will play out this season.

Based the novels, Edmure is taken hostage by the Freys, while Brynden is besieged in his ancestral home of Riverrun by Lannister allies.

The Inquisitr reports that Jamie Lannister is set to return to Riverrun this season in an attempt to resolve a situation which leads him to encounter Edmure, takes him prisoner, and makes a deal with him to recapture the castle.

Based on the “Game of Thrones” dedicated website, Wall of the Watchers, Nikolas Coster-Waldau was spotted filming in Northern Ireland in what seemed to be the Riverrun set along with Jerome Flynn, who portrays Bronn.

Now that two of the members from the House of Tully have been confirmed to make a reappearance when the show comes back for Season 6 and that fans are going to be taken back to the vast Riverrun region, speculations that Lady Stonehart, the resurrected Catelyn Stark, could possibly make a return are also making rounds on the internet.

Although showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss have long suggested that the Stark matriarch won’t be playing a part in the television show this season, it would seem very odd that the character won’t return in some form given her significance in the novels.

The Tullys are not the only ones coming back on the HBO hit series. Reports suggest that Sean Bean, who played Lord Eddard Stark, will make a cameo this season. Earlier reports said that the head of the House of Stark will appear this season after a fan claimed that he spotted the actor on the set in Spain.

Thirteen-year-old Sebastian Croft was cast this season to play the young Ned Stark so this means that Bean’s character might return for a flashback scene.

More familiar faces will be dropping by this season, Express UK reports, Sibel Kikelli, who plays Tyrion Lannister’s love Shae, was spotted on the set in Peniscola, Spain along with Conleth Hill, who plays Varys.

The German actress, who appeared until the show’s fourth season, will reportedly come back in a form of a flashback or a dream sequence possibly to haunt Tyrion. Shae was strangled to death by Peter Dinklage’s character in Season 4.

Speaking of Tyrion, the fan-favorite character is about to have a pivotal storyline this season, Huffington Post reports.

Dinklage’s character will have a major story arc this season as his imp character continues to develop. In this case, events in the book will line up with what fans will be seeing in the small screen.

In the novel, the dwarf member of the House of Lannister was also haunted by his past actions and frequently relives the scene where he murdered Shae.
