There have been so many rumors about the potential involvement of Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man 4” that some fans have seemingly given up on the idea of following the speculation entirely and have just resigned to waiting for official information – or the film itself. We don’t know if the actor is going to take part in the production or not, and while it would certainly be exciting for many of his fans to see him on the screen once again, there have been various rumors claiming that he isn’t on board for this production and there will be someone else in the iconic role.
We did get a seemingly official report confirming the actor’s involvement, but for many fans who have been following those rumors since the beginning, even that sounded strange and questionable. It’s obvious right now that people will need some serious convincing – most likely in the form of a true official confirmation – to finally believe the idea that the actor is on board. But in the end, even if they don’t, that just means they will be that much more surprised when the film comes out and they see him.
Fans are also wondering about the plot of the new film – it’s starting to seem more and more likely that the writers have come up with a more unusual idea this time, and they’re planning to introduce a few twists to the story that fans already know and love. This might be necessary seeing as how this is the fourth installment in the franchise, and some fans will probably have grown tired of the same old concept being used time after time.
That could have something to do with the rumors about replacing Robert Downey Jr., according to some – it’s possible that the producers are trying to keep things fresh by mixing up the cast a little bit, and while that might have some questionable consequences, it will at least get the job done right with regards to avoiding a situation where the films are getting stale.
Of course, Robert Downey Jr. taking part in the production doesn’t necessarily have to mean that it’s getting stale, as long as the actor delivers a solid performance, the kind he’s always been known for. He might have a thing or two to add to that character just yet, and this could be what the franchise needs in order to progress further.
Who could replace Downey Jr. if he gets skipped for this role though? The biggest candidate right now is a bit of an unusual guess, namely Ty Simpkins. The fact that he is 13 obviously raises some questions straight away, but there is apparently a good explanation behind all that – the actor is going to portray a younger version of Iron Man and the story will take place in a different timeframe. That would actually be a very radical change with some serious implications to the plot.
But in the end, all we know about Robert Downey Jr. refusing to take part in the film is that he was rumored to have asked for more money for the part, and was turned down. Exact numbers vary slightly from one rumor to the other, but in general it sounds like the actor was asking for a significant raise, and the studio wasn’t very happy with the idea – which would make it quite plausible that he was asking for a disproportionally large amount of money.
