Samsung are generally quite fond of experimenting with the Galaxy S5, trying out all sorts of different versions of the device in order to get a good exposure on the market and cover all their bases appropriately. The phone already has multiple different variants available, and even though it’s not the latest entry in the company’s line, it looks like it’s still getting updated with new editions. The latest one is called the Samsung Galaxy S5 New Edition – also called the Neo by some – and while it looks like it will be available in Brazil and a few other countries (at least), no official information has been released about it yet.
The reason why experts are convinced that the two phones are actually one and the same is that their availability was leaked at roughly the same time, and their specifications seem identical. So either Samsung are preparing two identical versions of the phone for different markets, or they are indeed coming out with this device and they have been sending out information about it to various retailers already.
According to reports, the new version of the phone is going to come with a new heart rate sensor, and it will also feature various additional forms of physical protection such as against dust and water. Of course, it’s still a smartphone so users shouldn’t expect miracles in terms of how much water it can withstand, but Samsung know how to make devices that are very tough and durable, and this is likely going to be one of them too.
What specifications can users expect to get inside the phone? Reports claim that it has a 5.1 inch screen with Super AMOLED technology, and a full HD resolution. It should be quite powerful in terms of processing power and RAM as well, although it might also be seen as slightly weak by today’s standards on the market. 2GB of RAM are not bad in general, but they might be a bit low for certain users who like to run more demanding Android applications.
Still, it should be a good device for general productivity and entertainment, and of course it’s not going to be a major flagship so it’s not being designed with top of the line hardware. That said, Samsung are still obviously trying to place this phone a little higher in the market hierarchy than most other devices coming out nowadays, so it won’t be a budget phone either.
Reports also indicate that Samsung might be trying to push their wearable line more actively with the release of this phone, as it will be fully integrated with the Gear Fit and other similar devices by Samsung. We don’t know if it will have any unique features that could make it even more attractive to those using some of Samsung’s wearable devices, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung had something more special up their sleeve on top of the already good hardware specifications.
So that’s it for the moment – the Galaxy S5 Neo is coming soon, and though we still don’t know the exact price or when it will be released exactly, it looks like it will be a nice mid-range phone that will satisfy the needs of most users quite adequately, and will further fortify the position of the Galaxy line on the smartphone market. Samsung have been trying very hard to become more prominent with these devices lately, and even though some experts are saying there is no need for that given their current popularity, Samsung know best.
