Avatar 2 Director James Cameron Confirms Stephen Lang Will Return as a Villain Again in the Sequel!

When “Avatar” was shown in 2009, the movie’s main villain was Colonel Miles Quaritch, played by actor Stephen Lang.

While Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana, shot two arrows to Colonel Quaritch’s chest, there is a good chance that Stephen Lang will still be back in the sequel. It is not clear however if he will play again the role of Quaritch or altogether take on another character.

But James Cameron confirmed the return of Stephen Lang when the critically-acclaimed director, writer, and producer said in a recent interview that the actor’s character in the “Avatar” franchise is comparable to that of Darth Vader from the “Star Wars” movie franchise. He added that Stephen was so memorable in the first film that the franchise is privileged to have him back for the sequel.

Cameron, however, did not say much about Stephen Lang’s role in “Avatar 2” but it looks like he has some real plans for the actor’s character. He said that Stephen’s character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of his new three-film saga, details Movie News Guide.

He did not explain how they will bring Stephen Lang back but stressed that the film is a science fiction story so everything is really possible, notes the Parent Herald.

The real hero

As he was a baddie during the first film, only a few people will be very happy with Stephen Lang’s return to the franchise.

There were actually multiple tributes to Col. Quaritch online because some fans of the franchise believe that Lang was the real hero in the film because he was there to protect a team of scientists and he gave his life to keep his troop safe.

These fans actually believe that Sam Worthington’s character Jake Sully was the traitor in the film because he did not only fail to accomplish his mission, he also chose to abandon his purpose and objective altogether.

Prison theme under the ocean

Cameron also confirmed that the sequel to “Avatar,” the most successful film of all time, will have a prison theme under the oceans of Pandora.

The movie will apparently feature the coordination between humans and the Na’vi. It will likewise feature the ocean ecosystem of Pandora. But it will only be part of the environment that fans will see because the film will not take place completely underwater.

Accordingly, the new world of Pandora will feature an awe-inspiring sight as Cameron is currently busy preparing a set that will show large oceans and new mesmerizing creatures.

The director is apparently determined to bring the audience not only to the world of the Na’vi but also to give them a glimpse of Pandora when “Avatar 2” hits theaters on December 25, 2017.

“Avatar 2” is said to be determined also to break the box-office record of “Avatar,” which at $2.788 billion is the highest-grossing movie of all time.

That is really a lot of profit for the producers since the first movie was produced with ‘only’ a $237 million budget.

As her character, Dr. Grace Augustine was already killed off in the first movie, veteran actress Sigourney Weaver will return to “Avatar 2” but as a different character already Sigourney personally disclosed it during her recent guesting at “The Jonathan Ross Show.” avatar 2

James Cameron also said in a previous interview that there will be a conflict between dominating nature and integrating with nature.

He said that the primary conflict between human view kind of dominating nature and the Na’vi view of being integrated into nature is the same. However it manifests itself in different ways, Cameron was quoted as saying.
