When Season 3 of the American police procedural TV drama series “Chicago P.D.” premiered on NBC on September 3, it started off with a reunion of sort of former lovers, former Detective Erin Lindsay, played by Sophia Bush, and Detective Jay Halstead, played by Jesse Lee Soffer. But it was definitely not the romantic kind and there were no sparks flying at all.
In addition, the premiere also saw the engagement of Police Officer Adam Ruzek, played by Patrick John Flueger, and Police Officer Kim Burgess, played by Marina Squerciati.
But those who have been following “Chicago P.D.” during its past two seasons, it is not a TV series that go by fairy tale happy endings, as such it is likely that the engagement of Ruzek and Burgess will be in for a rough sailing in the ongoing Season 3, cites Cartermatt.
However, their engagement may also end up in marriage but not before it goes through the wringer, critics believe.
Second episode spoilers
Meanwhile, spoilers are already out for the second episode of “Chicago P.D.” Season 3 officially titled “Natural Born Storyteller.”
Apparently, the Chicago P.D. intelligence team is on the case to investigate the death of an eight-year-old boy and things will get more intense as they run after the suspect, details TV Fanatic.
Among the spoilers include the Detective Halstead coming to his team’s rescue in the last minute of apprehending or nailing down the suspect possibly with a gun or maybe not.
The episode would also seem that the intelligence team members will have their hands full on the suspect who seems ready to fight it out with the authorities instead of answering for his crime. Detective Antonio Dawson, played by Jon Seda, Detective Erin Lindsay and the rest of the intelligence team will be under fire from the suspect. And so will be Police Officer Adam Ruzek.
Sergeant Henry ‘Hank’ Voight, played by Jason Beghe, will also be involved and will be hands-on in solving this intriguing case that his team is up against.
Ruzek on the spotlight
One of the possible dilemmas in the engagement of Ruzek and Burgess will come on the fourth episode of “Chicago P.D.” titled “Debts of the Past” set to be aired on October 21 which will focus on Ruzek’s back story and history.
Accordingly, some information about Ruzek’s past will make things awkward for him and his fiancée. But the episode will also help clear things out for Ruzek and if Burgess is indeed in love with him, she will learn to accept him for who he really is.
Also during the premiere episode, Lindsay worked solo despite no longer being an operative, to rescue Halstead from the kidnappers led by Derek Keyes, played by Bokeem Woodbine.
Lindsay did the solo mission not out of love to her former colleague and lover, but to extricate herself out of her depression that seems to be imprisoning her.
Back in Season 2, Lindsay made her intention to resign from her post after she succumbed to a series of depressing events in her life. Her depression will actually be tackled during the first few episodes of Season 3 of “Chicago P.D.” including the time she spent with her mother.
But she woke up from her depression stupor the moment she learns that Halstead was abducted, perhaps hinting that she still loves Jay.
While the law enforcement group at Chicago P.D. pursued Keyes as he is one of Chicago’s most wanted and notorious drug pushers, Lindsay went on a solo mission and took matters into her own hands to find Halstead.
Season 3 of “Chicago P.D.” picked up just a few weeks after the Season 2 finale, around the time when Lindsay decided to quit the force.
Halstead pretty much showed his concern or continuing affection for Lindsay when he asks Sergeant Voight if he should reach out to Lindsay. Voight, as every fan of the TV series knows, is the surrogate father of Lindsay.
