Captain America: Civil War is Very Much Cap’s Movie, Says Marvel Studios Boss!

After reports came out over the past couple of weeks that the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War,” due to hit worldwide theaters on May 6, 2016, is no longer a film of the star-spangled hero but an installment of “The Avengers,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige officially came out to say otherwise.

Feige said that “Captain America: Civil War” is very much Cap’s movie because it is the culmination of a trilogy that began with “Captain America: The First Avenger.”

In a web forum to promote the home video release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Feige said that people will someday look back and watch “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and “Captain America: Civil War” and they will say that it is one of the most unique and different trilogies ever made around a single character, details Cinema Blend.

Despite the presence of at least 11 other Marvel superheroes in “Captain America: Civil War” including Iron Man, Black Widow, Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Spider-Man, The Vision, Hawkeye, War Machine, and Black Panther, Feige debunks claims that the film is “Avengers 2.5,” notes Collider.

The Marvel Studios boss said that the upcoming film is very much a sequel to “The Winter Soldier” and is very much, in a certain way, a completion of the “Captain America” movie trilogy.

Start of phase 3 of MCU

Feige also disclosed that “Captain America: Civil War” is actually the start of phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and that a lot of casting announcements would be announced very soon by the studio.

He disclosed that there will be a slew of casting announcements before the next few months and that it would focus on “Thor 3: Ragnarok” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” as well as other future Marvel films.

“Captain America: Civil War” is based on the comic book story arc which will begin with Steve Rogers leading a new team of Avengers to protect the world. However, after another international incident involving the Avengers, several governments decided to implement the Superhero Registration Act.

Chris Evans, who plays Steve Rogers and Captain America, says that Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., is in favor of the new restriction and wants the Avengers to submit to the governments. But the star-spangled superhero is firmly against it because his experience in dealing with the government in the past left a bad taste in his mouth. And that is where the conflict among the Avengers will begin.

Changing tunes

Not too long ago, Chris Evans was quoted as saying that he wanted to have a break from his Marvel Studios contract to focus on his passion projects.

However, the actor has recently changed his tune by saying that he will go wherever Marvel wants him to go. Obviously, he could not ask for more since Marvel has given him the opportunity to join the ranks of the 10 highest-paid actors in the world for three years running.

Meanwhile, the Vision, played by British actor Paul Bettany, was first introduced in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” shown in May this year. Just like Ultron, The Vision is also inhuman because he is an android or a robot.

The superhero character will be among the other Avengers who will be joining the star-spangled superhero in “Captain America: Civil War” to be released to theaters in the spring of next year.

According to Bettany, The Vision still has a lot of growing up to do because although he is omnipotent, he is still naïve. He also hinted that just because The Vision was a good guy in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the character may not be the same in “Captain America: Civil War,” alluding perhaps that the superhero would turn south.

Before being The Vision, he first came out as the voice of Tony Stark’s AI known as Jarvis. Bettany says that he is enjoying being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe because it is really creative and fun. He also said that for the first time in his life, he feels very secure knowing that he will still have a couple of movies to do even after “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” and the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War.”
