The Last Man on Earth Season 2 Starts with an Episode That Takes the Show Back to Its Roots!

After a successful first season, “The Last Man on Earth” is back for more, and season 2 already started off quite strongly. The first episode was very reminiscent of the show’s original style, showing the character all alone, although that didn’t last so long as he ended up making a small mistake along the way. In the end though, many fans of the production seemed pleased with how the showrunners handled the opening of this season, and there is strong hope that we’re going to see an overall good set of episodes as the season continues.

Phil was about to be all alone for the entire episode, but in the end he was joined by Carol in a peculiar twist of events, so he ended up taking her along with him. The two of them then started searching for a new place to settle, although their search was going a bit strange and brought up some interesting obstacles.

The two of them still managed to make the best from the situation and even had some fun with the places that they visited. We saw them performing some unusual acts along the way and many fans of the show reportedly had a lot of fun with how the writers handled their little trip. However, it wouldn’t be in the true spirit of “The Last Man on Earth” if everything had kept going smoothly, and eventually there were some problems ahead of the two characters.

More specifically, sentiments of old feelings started coming up between them, and it turned out that Carol was missing her old friends quite a lot, enough that she was starting to get a bit annoyed with her whole situation. Phil tried cheering her up by moving the two of them from one place to another, but in the end it turned out that it wasn’t a change of scenery that Carol was craving, but rather having her old familiar people back around her.

We’ve seen that this was a point of conflict between the two characters in the past, and it could easily become an even more serious issue in the future if Carol keeps getting distracted by her feelings. The two characters have a lot of issues to get over, and they certainly get along well enough to help each other in getting over their problems, but there might be some things which neither of them will be able to handle well.

It certainly didn’t help that Phil left Carol and drove off without her accidentally, and he didn’t even notice for quite some time. As can be expected, Carol didn’t stand around waiting for him to return for several hours and she took off in an unknown direction, leaving Phil to search for her in vain. We don’t know how the story between the two of them will turn out in the future, but Phil was greeted by a rather surprising turn of events once he decided to go back to Tucson to look for Carol.

He was convinced that she had taken off in that same direction, but once he arrived in Tucson, all he found were ruins, as it turned out that the community was completely abandoned. We don’t know if the writers are planning to share any details about what happened with that community and where exactly everyone had gone to, but it would certainly be interesting to see them digging into that story a bit deeper.
