2016 Nissan Altima Going through a Major Overhaul, Facing a Lot of Competition, And More Information

The Nissan Altima hasn’t been on the market for that long, but it’s already seen some revisions in its design, and it looks like the 2016 edition is going to take things even further. In fact, the 2016 Altima is coming with some very serious changes, and fans of the line might find themselves slightly confused about how this will make them feel. In the end though, it does look quite good, and some critics have been pointing out that Nissan might have some very real reasons for wanting to give the model such a thorough revision.

The changes are visible from a glance at the outside – the body of the car is significantly different, and we don’t mean minor profile changes but rather drastic redesigns of entire parts of the car. While it still has the characteristic Altima look to it and fans are obviously going to recognize the car, it also looks very different and can easily be mistaken for an alternative model that was inspired by the Altima.

Moving on, the changes are also visible on the inside. The whole interior has received a significant overhaul, and many have described it as an upgrade – from the shapes of the seats to the design of the dashboard, everything looks more advanced and sleek. The materials used in the construction have been upgraded as well, and the car has a more premium feel to it, according to reports.

It’s quite obvious that this was no minor change for Nissan – the company has been investing a lot of money and effort into this overhaul, so they must have a very specific plan with it too. What could that be though? The main suggestion from experts right now is that Nissan are facing a lot of competition in this market segment and they need to really improve their offer in order to stand out amidst all the noise.

It’s true that other companies have been offering some pretty attractive deals in this price class and Nissan might have some issues keeping the Altima afloat if they don’t make the necessary changes, but on the other hand we don’t know if a major redesign like that is the right way to go about the situation.

After all, as some critics have pointed out, a change like this usually means spending a lot of money and dedicating research and development time to it. Resources that can be used to further push the line in its current state – so if that investment doesn’t justify itself, the Altima could be in a lot of trouble.

The problem is not just with the Altima though, it’s the whole market attitude towards sedans that has been changing a lot lately, and people now perceive them a bit differently. The focus in the USA has been shifting to pickup trucks more and more strongly, and even though this trend was there before, now it’s more obvious than ever.

And Nissan’s main competitors have obviously been taking notes as well, as the company is surrounded by some pretty attractive offers from all directions right now. They will need to put a lot of effort into the marketing of the 2016 Altima if they want to help the model survive, but many of their fans are confident that the company will pull through and make the Altima a truly popular name like it deserves.

  1. I’m interested to see how quiet this car is. I’m not sure how these manufacturers are getting away with so much road and wind noise, plus loud buzzy engines with that crappy CVT.
