Supernatural Season 11 to See the Return of Sam’s Imaginary Childhood Friend Sully!

Season 11 of the American horror fantasy TV series “Supernatural” will premiere on The CW on October 7 and reports early this month cited that the brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, will get a blast from the past in the upcoming season.

Now, the word is out that the blast from the past is going to be Sully, the imaginary friend from childhood of Sam. Sully is going to be played by actor Nate Torrence, details Variety.

Accordingly, Sully will appear in one of the upcoming episodes of Season 11 of “Supernatural” titled “Just My Imagination” because he would be needing Sam and Dean’s assistance over a particular problem.

The episode will reportedly be directed by Richard Speight Jr, who previously directed a couple of episodes for the enduring horror TV series and also for playing the angel Gabriel, and also moonlighting as the Trickster, in various episodes between Season 2 and Season 9.

Speight and fan-favorite “Supernatural” director Rob Benedict were present during the show’s 2015 panel at the San Diego ComicCon held in July.

Nate Torrence was recently seen in the midseason TV comedy “Weird Loners” and also appeared on “Hello Ladies” shown on HBO, “Mr. Sunshine” on ABC, and “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” on NBC.

An imaginary friend that was not so imaginary

MTV describes Sully as Sam’s imaginary friend who was not so imaginary. Rather than helping them fight The Darkness that was unleashed during the Season 10 finale, the appearance of the imaginary childhood friend cannot be good.

It can be recalled that Sam spent a lot of his childhood waiting for Dean and John, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, to return from a hunt. So to prevent himself from getting bored, he created an imaginary friend to keep him company while his family was away.

However, it eventually turns out that Sully is real and in the flesh. Based on his track record in most of the TV series that he has appeared on, it is likely that Sully will be there to put some comedic relief on the adventures of the Winchester brothers.

There were reports early this month that aside from working together to take on The Darkness, which was unleashed during the Season 10 finale, the Winchester brothers will also get a blast from the past.

A fan-favorite character

The reports said that Sam and Dean will reunite with some fan-favorite character from earlier episodes of “Supernatural.”

It was actually showrunner Jeremy Carver who disclosed the information on the long-running series during the ComicCon 2015 held in San Diego, California in July when he said that key actors will reprise their characters in Season 11 but in surprising ways.

The executive producer added that the return of key characters becomes necessary as Sam and Dean contend with The Darkness. The Winchester brothers need all the help they can get to defeat The Darkness and send it back where it rightfully belongs so any support from key characters from the past would be most welcome.

This only means that aside from Sully, there could still be other characters who shall be returning on Season 11 of “Supernatural.”

Jensen Ackles also said during a recent interview that the big bad in Season 11 of “Supernatural” is actually a pre-Biblical entity and it will take the form of a woman. The Darkness, he added, will be the biggest enemy yet of the Winchester boys.

Ackles also added that The Darkness is more of a primal force that both Sam and Dean know nothing about, which is why they will find it difficult to defeat.

He added that there is no lore, no guidebook nor no instruction manual on how to deal with The Darkness so Sam and Dean will need every help they can get, both from friends and foes of the past, to take down the powerful entity.

The actor explained that the Winchester siblings will have to make some unexpected and unholy alliances involving characters from their past, which will have personal ramifications as well.
