‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 5 to Feature an LGBT Love Story Involving Mulan!

The world’s eyes on LGBT have finally been opened. It is no longer considered an absurdity but a fact of life and it seems that the American fairy tale drama TV series “Once Upon a Time” will also have a share of such issue when it premieres on ABC on September 27 for its fifth season.

Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis actually confirmed of the LGBT relationship in Season 5 of “Once Upon a Time” that shall involve Disney princess Mulan, played in the TV series by Jamie Chung.

As early as Season 3 of “Once Upon a Time,” it was already revealed that Mulan was a lesbian, but the show did not explore it any further following the decision of Mulan to join Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

In a recent interview, Kitsis said that they know that the LGBT community has been big supporters of “Once Upon a Time” so they would really like to tell a love story reflective of that. He confirmed that it is something that is going to happen in Season 5.

Horowitz validated the statement of his partner when he said that they wanted “Once Upon a Time” to reflect the world as it is now. But they do not want to say whether it is going to be with any particular character. What he can confirm further is that it is something that they have thought to be due and is quite important to do on the show, details the Christian Post.

Although there is still no certainty as far as the storyline for the supposed issue is concerned, it has also been confirmed that Mulan will be appearing again in the TV series during the first half of Season 5.

While it is indeed a challenging take on the well-known fairy tale characters, but fans of “Once Upon a Time” are getting excited on how the LGBT love story will unfold.

Stepping into the light

Previous reports about the spoilers for Season 5 of “Once Upon a Time” basically centered on the transition of Emma Swan, played by Jennifer Morrison, to turn to the dark side even as the Evil Queen Regina, played by Lana Parilla, will step into the light.

In a recent interview, Parilla disclosed that Season 5 of “Once Upon a Time” will see Regina going to be a hero. She added that it’s really her journey of exploring that given the immense amount of responsibility that comes with the transformation.

Parilla added that they will see Regina evolving into the role, but no one still knows where she will eventually end up. But her transition to the light will not come willingly to Regina. She is merely reciprocating the gesture made by Emma on her as it can be recalled that in Season 4, Emma saved her life because Emma promised that she would give her a happy ending no matter what. In effect, what Emma did was to sacrifice herself for Regina’s happiness, details Entertainment Weekly.

Darkness will play a big role

According to Edward Kitsis, the darkness within Regina, and also within Hook, played by Colin O’Donoghue, will play a big role in Emma’s journey in Season 5.

Horowitz explained that they love the notion that two of the people that Emma has expectedly and unexpectedly grown closest to over the years are two people who have battled darkness themselves.

He added that the fact that Emma is now facing darkness and both Regina and Hook has faced it, they can surely help her and inform her what she’s going through, based on their experiences, and either help or hinder her from returning to Storybrooke.

  1. This is basically their last ditch attempt to get their LGBT audience to keep watching after years of queerbaiting, and no one is interested in their token.
