“Dark Souls III” is approaching, and many players are preparing for yet another round of mind-bendingly difficult levels, challenging gameplay and an interesting story with lots of secrets to uncover. The first game in the franchise was pretty iconic in the industry as a whole – it became a synonym for extreme difficulty in some circles, and players still remember how it made them feel to this day.
And while “Dark Souls III” might still be some time off, players are already discussing what the game might bring to the table and how it could improve the overall formula. We know for a fact that the developers are planning something quite special for this installment and are apparently going to ramp up the most important elements – like difficulty – even more, but that’s not all that we can expect from this version of the game, as far as we can tell.
There will be various additions to the gameplay meant to add more depth and make the whole game feel more varied, increasing its replay value and allowing players to experiment with different gameplay mechanics while they are progressing through its world. On one hand, players are now going to be able to choose different skills, something which was missing from previous games. Overall, the new title is going to feel more like an RPG than the last two, and many players seem quite excited about that by itself.
Different weapons will benefit from different skills and modifiers, and it looks like the game is going to give players even more reasons to go through it over and over again and explore the different mechanics that it offers. Of course, some of those skills will be aimed at players who want to approach the levels in a more skillful way, performing actions other than plain combat to get away from the enemies that will swarm them.
On the other hand, the variety of equipment will be increased significantly as well, with various new types of armors, weapons and special tools to help players complete the challenging levels. Various spells will be encountered throughout the journey through the game’s world as well, and it looks like the developers want to give players even more options to configure their characters exactly how they want them to be.
But the most important question for the majority of players concerns the difficulty of the new game. Are we going to see this feature toned down in the name of making the title more accessible, or are the developers going to take the exact opposite approach and give players even more of a challenge with this installment? We have strong reasons to believe the latter – it looks like the game is going to really ramp up the difficulty and give players even more of a challenge to go after, although it’s not quite certain how much more difficult everything is going to become.
After all, the original two games were already quite punishing in their difficulty and they didn’t leave their players with many options when they were about to fail. Many of the sections of the first game in particular required constant repetition and a careful approach, and it’s good to see that the developers have put effort into preserving this quality of the franchise, even if it could limit their potential for reaching a broad audience of players.
