Tesla Model S and Model X already Inspiring the Industry: Competitors Coming Up, And More

When Tesla got involved in the electric vehicle market, they had a pretty good goal which some people didn’t immediately realize. It was not just about making money and improving the popularity of the brand itself, but Elon Musk wanted to revolutionize the concept of electric vehicles and make them more easily accessible for everyone, while also popularizing the idea and helping people see that it has some serious merit.

Because of this, many experts saw the company as a more important player than most people were giving them credit for, and many were looking forward to their releases, expecting the market to change significantly if Ford saw any success. And it looks like that was indeed the case – once these models started picking up in their popularity, other companies have come out of the woodwork with their own ideas for good electric vehicles and the market is currently going through some interesting changes.

Most recently, Porsche and Audi joined this area of the market with their own unique electric models, each of which actually looks quite impressive and in line with the quality we can expect from these popular brands. Audi in particular have been enjoying a lot of attention from all parts of the market, while Porsche on the other hand seem to be preparing a very advanced model for those who can spend a little more on a good electric car.

It’s interesting to note that the Mission E – the new model by Porsche – is very obviously inspired by the Porsche 911, the most iconic model by the company, although it takes the design in an entirely new direction with its powerful 600 horsepower engine and 800 volt electric system powering the whole thing.

Audi, on the other hand, have taken a slightly more mild approach to their release, with a standard design and specifications, and even though their model doesn’t immediately stand out with any shiny new features, it does make a very good impression and has already been enjoying a lot of attention from auto lovers. Considering that it’s reportedly capable of a 500 km range too, that shouldn’t be very surprising.

Tesla still have the advantage in any case though, even if their primary goal isn’t to come out on top. They’re already gearing up for the release of the Model X, their newest car that’s already been taking the market by storm through discussions and previews, while both Porsche and Audi are going to need more time to make their own releases.

More specifically, both companies are aiming at around 2018 for their models, so Tesla will have plenty of time to get what they want and establish their market presence until then. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them releasing their next model in the meantime too, although there have been reports that the company might face some more serious issues with the design of that car and they will apparently need more time before it’s ready for the market.

It doesn’t really matter in the long run though – the change that everyone wanted to see is already here and it’s clear that the market is moving in the right direction, and will continue to do so for quite a while now. People have realized the merit in a good electric vehicle and they are already considering their options very carefully, following the development of Tesla’s models as well as those of other brands.
