While we won’t get to see “Suicide Squad” anytime soon, the film is definitely shaping up to be a solid release and fans are – rightly – very excited about it. It’s going to deliver a lot of interesting developments to the screen, and of course everyone has been going crazy talking about the Joker portrayed by Jared Leto. There have been some mixed opinions about the actor’s portrayal of the character however, with some fans claiming that he’s pushing the role too far in the wrong direction, but many people have solid confidence in Leto and trust that he’ll be able to pull it off in a great way.
From what we know so far, Leto has been sticking to his method acting techniques pretty much completely, doing various things that were sometimes taken as strange/unusual by his fellow cast members, but in the end we can somewhat understand where he’s coming from. After all, it’s important to properly get in the role if he wants to deliver a solid performance, and method acting requires a person to truly blend their character into their real lives.
One of the details about Leto’s joker that are going to be different from what we’re already used to is the lack of make-up. Or rather, it will not be the traditional style of make-up that we saw in Heath Ledger’s representation of the character. For “Suicide Squad”, the producers are apparently taking the Joker back to his roots and styling him after the original character who fell into a vat of acid and ended up severely deformed.
This will play into both the appearance of the character as well as his mindset, as the Joker’s mentality was severely affected by his incident in the vat, and this played a major role in the development of his personality later on. We don’t know if the writers are going to stick to the original story 100% – most probably not – but we do expect that it will have some significant influence on how the character develops.
However, even though most fans are expecting to see the Joker as the ultimate bad guy of the film, this likely won’t be the case, according to reports. From what we’ve heard so far, there are other plans for his character and it’s very likely that there will be someone else in the role of the main villain, although it’s not entirely clear who that would be. There are plenty of rumors about it though.
The most prominent ones claim that the Enchantress will be the main antagonist of the film, and there have been various hints about that throughout the film’s production, although it hasn’t been confirmed with certainty by the producers. We’ve seen her walking down the street alone, separate from the rest of the Suicide Squad, and that could definitely mean something. In the end, we don’t really know the main points of the new film’s plot, and a lot is still under speculation.
What we do know is a report that claimed that the actors were required to really get into the mindsets of the characters they were portraying, and there were even talks of a mental therapist available on the set because some cast members were getting overwhelmed with dark thoughts and they’ve been finding it difficult to get rid of those ideas in some cases.
