While most smartphone manufacturers have been focusing on Western markets, Asus have been pushing very actively for an increased presence in India, and it looks like their efforts are paying off. The company has been enjoying more and more recognition in the region, and they’ve been utilizing their increased popularity to their advantage, pushing hard on their marketing campaigns and making sure that people remember their brand name.
And now, they’ve surprised their Indian fans with a nice announcement – even though the ZenFone 2 Laser was supposed to arrive to the local market on September 19, the company has decided to push the release date forward by 11 days and the phone was already out on September 8. This resulted in an immediate spike in interest towards the device, and as can be expected, people were actively preordering it and discussing it on the Internet.
It’s worth pointing out that Asus aren’t an old presence on this market – they’re actually relatively new there and they need every bit of help they can get in boosting their recognition, which is why this move is seen as so important by many experts. The company obviously knows what they want to do and how they want to capture the hearts of their users, and according to their own statements, they’re looking at a 5% local market share by the end of the year.
Indian consumers have been quite happy about the news as well, claiming that this is a nice surprise and it doesn’t look like many people were actually expecting this to happen. And almost immediately, there were over 30,000 preorders for the phone, which is an obvious indication of a huge interest from the local community.
The phone has a good set of features too and it’s not hard for a device like that to attract lots of customers to the brand, and even though it’s not a very expensive device it still packs quite the punch for an Android phone. It’s particularly good for budget buyers who want a phone with a moderately good camera, and it even has a variant with 3 GB of RAM that costs slightly more than the base model but should offer a fantastic improvement in performance compared to the standard device. It will definitely be more than enough for the everyday needs of typical Android users.
In other markets, the original ZenFone 2 has already been enjoying a lot of attention, and people were quite impressed with what the device had to offer for this kind of price. It should be no wonder that it’s been enjoying so much attention on the Indian market too, as the local community of smartphone users definitely know how to appreciate a good budget model and they know what to expect from a phone in this price bracket. It looks like Asus have a plan to very aggressively push into the Indian market and they’ve been implementing it quite successfully, which should yield some good rewards for them in the future.
Meanwhile, reviewers have been comparing what the device has to offer with one of the previous flagships by Samsung, the Galaxy Note 5. And while the Note 5 does come out on top in certain regards, it’s quite clear that the ZenFone 2 has a lot of merit to it too, and the device is an important release for the Android market as a whole, not just for Asus and their presence in India.
