HTC One M9: Is the Flagship Worth Buying at This Point, or Should Fans Wait for the Next One? Let’s See

HTC’s One M8 was an incredible phone and a very important release on the Android market. Because of this, people were expecting something close to a miracle from its successor, the One M9 – and yet, HTC ended up disappointing their fans to some extent and released a phone that didn’t really live up to those expectations. Sure, it was still a relatively powerful flagship – but it didn’t really have that “wow” effect that the M8 inspired in its users.

And now that Apple have announced their latest devices, people have been asking even more actively if the HTC One M9 is worth buying right now, or if Android fans are better off waiting for the next flagship release by the company. We don’t really know when that might happen and if it will be anytime soon at all, but it looks like it’s going to be a rather long wait for those who want to get the M10, or whatever the new device is going to be called.

In the meantime, people have been comparing the One M9 to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, and according to most opinions, both devices have their own merits but the M9 is falling a bit behind the times compared to the latest releases by Apple, and even some other companies on the Android market like Samsung with their Galaxy S6. The S6 is a very capable flagship itself, and it managed to effectively steal the thunder of HTC by becoming the powerhouse of the Android market and replacing HTC’s offer in this regard.

Still, the device does have its benefits that put it above other offers by a large margin, such as the great camera which not only has fantastic image processing capabilities, but it also comes with serious hardware too. It’s no secret that the M9 takes some pretty impressive pictures that put it above its competition to a large extent, but after all, a camera isn’t everything about a smartphone and the device has to offer a lot more in its overall package in order to win people over.

Performance-wise, for example, Samsung seem to have something quite good going on with their own S6 and the phone is a very solid flagship capable of handling most popular Android applications with ease. It’s also worth noting that the Exynos chip that’s so favored by recent releases by some companies is a very capable chip itself and it offers a serious performance boost. In the end, many reviewers claimed that the HTC One M9 is actually better than both the iPhones as well as the Galaxy S6 in terms of processor performance, although the device still leaves a little bit to be desired. At least when it’s compared to its famous predecessor, as the One M8 was seen as hands down the best device on the Android market for a long time and it would be hard to beat.

But perhaps that’s part of the problem with the situation – people are being a bit unfair towards the One M9, and their expectations towards the device aren’t entirely too realistic. They keep comparing it to the One M8, or rather the presence it had on the market, and it’s probably safe to assume at this point that the One M8 was more of a one-time lucky strike for the company and not the general trend for them.

  1. I have been a fan of HTC since rejecting my first i-phone as a buggy walled garden and convertint to Android in 2008.

HTC Phones were the best Androids on the market, although not quite reaching the pocket candy effect of an i-phone.

Then in 2013 came the M7, boy did it come with loads of spunk! I was hooked, the M8, well everyone made a noise about it, yes it had the same quality build and feel, but I was still joined at the hip to my M7.

So I just upgraded to the M9. I’ve heard it gets hot, well, I’m no gamer, but it works fine in the Sauna. The camera with its new firmware upgrades means I don’t need to carry my GF4 and the software is slick.

But now I hear about the M10 or 02, darn, waterproof, dust proof, mini bomb proof, 4 Gigs of Ram (double that of my first PC in 96) and 128 Gig drive (err multiples of my first PC) I wannit in my pocket now!

Don’t get me wrong, I still try the i-phone, it’s OK, but not a patch on the M7 or M8 on build quality. The S6, well I’m an old fashioned kinda guy, “phone of glass” sounds like a Blondie song. For that kind of money, I want a full metal jacket!

  2. I had the m8..now a samsung s6 edge…believe me, the s6 is nothing compared to last years m8 in terms of smootheness, battery lfe and software refinement. .. .
