The main drama about “The Big Bang Theory” right now concerns the recent break-up between Sheldon and Amy, an event that took many fans by surprise and shook up the foundations of the show quite a bit. It quickly went from a quirky, nerdy comedy, to something with a lot more seriousness and drama attached to it, and a show that is starting to take a deeper look at the way the relationships of its characters work.
And while Sheldon and Amy have been having their own troubles, they aren’t the only couple facing difficulties – Penny and Leonard have also been trying to get over some issues in their own relationship, but it looks like they will at least be more successful than Sheldon and Amy once the new season rolls around. From what we’re hearing so far, season 9 will finally feature a wedding between the two characters!
What’s more, the writers are apparently not even going to waste any time for that, as they have reportedly decided to get the two characters married right in the beginning of the new season. And while that will serve as a moment of joy for fans who’ve been disappointed by Sheldon’s loss, it looks like this will be just the beginning of the true relationship between the two.
The main question regarding Penny and Leonard is whether Penny will be able to forgive Leonard for cheating on her, and this is something that has been bothering fans for quite some time. Even though it’s currently implied that the wedding is still on and that it’s supposed to happen right in the season premiere, things are still a bit uncertain with the incident still hanging in the air.
One of the main theories within the community of the show’s fans is that we are indeed going to see that marriage going down, but it will be quickly followed by various issues for both characters and we’re likely going to see that relationship strained to a significant extent. Hopefully this doesn’t mean that they’re going to decide to cut things off soon after tying the knot, as that might be stretching the show’s dramatic side a bit too far.
Indeed, some fans have been expressing displeasure with the way Sheldon and Amy’s relationship was handled, claiming that this is too much drama for a lighthearted show like “The Big Bang Theory” is supposed to be. And while that may have been true in the context of the first few seasons, it’s important to remember that this show has gone through a very long development and it’s currently quite far from where it started.
After so many seasons, it’s only logical for the producers to want to shake things up a bit and introduce a little more drama in the lives of their characters. And even if that makes things unpleasant for some time, we trust them that they know what they’re doing in the long run.
We wouldn’t be surprised if season 9 pushes the show’s concept forward to a serious extent and ends up introducing some new ideas that were previously unknown to the audience of “The Big Bang Theory”. Whether or not this will work out in the long run and be liked by fans, we don’t know – but it’s definitely important that the producers at least make some attempt at keeping things fresh and interesting.
