For a show that is dominantly led by female characters, it’s definitely a great idea to introduce a few new male faces in the story. Netflix’s critically-acclaimed comedy-drama “Orange is the New Black” has added three new actors, two of whom are males, on the show’s upcoming fourth season.
According to Vine Report, the trio joining the series for recurring roles are “Pacific Rim” star Brad William Henke, “The Drop” actor Mike Houston, and actress Kelly Karbacz who is known for her appearance in “Get Smart.”
Reports say that the three actors were signed by show creator Jenji Kohan in the middle of production for the season. But there are still no details as to what role that each of them will play on OINTB’s fourth season.
However, Christian Today speculates that because of Henke and Houston’s bulky physique, they might play the new guards at the correctional facility. Karbacz, on the other hand, could portray a character that holds a position in the management of the Litchfield penitentiary.
This could be true as the correctional facility will be in need of new workers when it returns for Season 4. It can be recalled that at the end Season 3, the prison was about to welcome a slew of new inmates. Also, the rumored role of the new cast members can be justified now that Litchfield prison is under a new ownership.
Other cast-related news reports that Jackie Cruz and Lea DeLaria have been upgraded to series regular for the fourth season. Cruz portrays inmate Marisol “Flaca” Gonzales while DeLaria plays inmate Carrie “Big Boo” Black.
Meanwhile, Laverne Cox spilled some details about what will happen to her character Sophia Burset and her relationship with Selenis Leyva’s Gloria Mendoza when the show returns on Netflix in June 2016. Speaking to TV Guide, Cox disclosed that there will be no room for reconciliation between Sophia and Gloria as the two would probably continue their feud all throughout the season.
The 31-year-old actress even added that with how bad things are going for Sophia and Gloria, there might never be a possibility for the two to become friends again. Leyva for her part says that the sworn enemies are good people individually, it’s just that their conflicts stem deeply about their children and less on personal animosities against one another.
Fans of the Emmy Award-winning show have seen Cox’s Sophia struggle with a lot of problems during Season 3. What’s worse is that she had to face those problems while dealing with the fact that her son chose the wrong path in his life. In this regard, she also had a conflict with Gloria.
It looks like friendship is not in the works for the two on Season 4, but nothing is set in stone. Movie News Guide reports that both Cox and Leyva revealed that they do not know much yet about OINTB’s Season 4 as well as what the future has in store for their bickering characters.
On the other hand, Laura Prepon recently revealed that her character Alex Vause will undergo numerous changes during the upcoming season. The 35-year-old actress admits that a tougher Alex will be welcoming the show’s fourth season and most of it is due to her near-death experience in Season 3.
Speaking to TV Guide, the “That 70’s Show” alum narrates that fans won’t get to see Alex’s timid side anymore because she’s already justified her paranoia which on Prepon’s opinion empowers her character very much.
When asked if Season 4 will see Alex and Piper entering into a relationship again, Prepon teased that no one can control who their hearts beat for and adds that Piper and Alex will always have a deep connection with each other.
