The Roku line of media streaming devices is one of the most famous brand names in its class, and even though other companies have managed to come out with their own solid releases that have solidified their positions on the market, a lot of people are still excitedly awaiting the release of the Roku 4.
The latest rumors we’ve heard about the device claim that it’s going to come with some significant improvements to its hardware specifications while also polishing the interface and user experience to some extent. However, now that Roku has such fierce competition on the market, will they be able to retain their original levels of popularity with the same pricing levels?
Most experts seem skeptical on that, and the general consensus is that the Roku 4 would have to come with a revision in its price if the device is to stay relevant on the market. Of course, people aren’t forgetting the rumored improvements to the hardware specifications, but even that might not be enough to sway some potential buyers if the new Roku doesn’t also come at an attractive price.
We haven’t heard any rumors talking specifically about possible price reductions, but it is claimed occasionally that the company is looking into offering more options to their users in the way of additional models with different configurations. The situation is particularly troubling for Roku in light of rumors that claim that other companies on the market are planning their own budget-friendly releases, and it looks like competition is going to be quite harsh for the company.
Prices have been going down across this market in general, and even if that doesn’t reflect on Roku’s business immediately, they are definitely going to feel the repercussions later on if they want to stick to their same business model. Even now, the Roku 3 isn’t exactly a cheap option and the device has already been facing some serious competition from all sides.
What could the new Roku offer that would potentially draw attention to it, other than better hardware? There is certainly a lot of room for improvement on this market, and most of the popular devices are still in a relatively young phase, with manufacturers exploring their different options about hardware and software.
A little improvement in the interface design of the Roku could go a long way towards securing better market positions for it, and other companies have actually been paying a lot of attention to the ease of use of their own devices. And while the Roku isn’t really bad in this regard, it does have some rough edges that need smoothing out and could benefit from such improvements quite a lot.
It might also scone with better gaming capabilities according to what we’ve heard, and this rumor has been met with a lot of enthusiasm by fans of the previous devices. This is a marker niche that could definitely use a little more utilization.
Above all though, the new Roku is going to need much better marketing and a new way to present itself to the world if the company wants to get the device noticed. With all the extra competition that the Roku has nowadays, the company will also have to put more effort into making sure that people hear about the new device in the first place. It’s a well-known brand name and they shouldn’t have too much trouble reaching out to a lot of people, but standing out in the middle of all the noise on the market right now is going to be very important.

I may be alone in saying this but I’m willing to pay a premium for the Roku 4. The Roku interface and experience, in my opinion, rival all other mainstream options!
Not worried about an extra $20 or so. Get the Roku 4 out with HBO so I can ditch this POS AppleTV to get a good streaming device while still keeping my wife happy.
Love Roku3, it’s the best! Would definitely pay more for Roku 4 .
I have used a Roku since the Roku XS was released and I have used an ATV3 and an Amazon Fire TV. The Roku is still my go to streamer. I will buy the Roku 4 when it is released even at a premium price, because it is a well made product. That being said, my Fire TV gets a lot of play. Mainly for the reason that I can add XBMC/Kodi.
I wouldn’t consider buying anything else, but Roku since I have used it since the beginning.
