While “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice” is considered to be a follow up to the 2013 Superman film “Man of Steel,” it is technically not a sequel. Reports have claimed that the upcoming DC superhero movie has put on hold plans for “Man of Steel 2.”
According to International Business Times, Warner Bros is considering producing “Man of Steel 2” already, but the fate of the sequel will heavily depend on the response for “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Reports say that if “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” slated for a March 25, 2016 release, will be received well in the box office, then future DC Comic-based movies including the sequel to “Man of Steel” will be given the green light.
Another reason for the project being put on hold is the unavailability of cast and crew since they are all involved with “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” However, the main man himself, Henry Cavill, who plays Superman has been contracted to reprise his role at least until 2019.
Earlier this week, reports have surfaced that “Mad Max: Fury Road” director George Miller will be directing the next Superman film especially when it was confirmed that he is in talks with Warner Bros to helm a DC movie in the future. Apparently, the studio has not decided which movie he will direct yet and has given Miller a wide array of future films to choose from.
Despite the push and pull rumors for “Man of Steel 2,” the hype for “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is certainly a good sign for future superhero films. The film will see Cavill alongside Ben Affleck who portrays Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego Batman. The film boasts a great cast with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa playing Aquaman, and Jesse Eisenberg who will be playing antagonist Lex Luthor. Amy Adams and Diane Lane are also reprising their roles in “Man of Steel” as Lois Lane and Martha Kent, respectively.
Reports suggest that a lot of role reversals will be seen in the upcoming “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” film. Director Zack Synder has long stated that the mega-superhero film has drawn a lot of inspiration from the Batman comic book series “Dark Knight Returns.”
Christian Post states that in the comics, the battle between Superman and Batman began after the government insisted that Superman track down and investigate an estranged Batman because they feared that he posed an imminent threat.
In the movie, however, it is the other way around as the Gotham City vigilante is the one who seems to be tracking down the Man of Steel after he witnessed a huge damage resulting from the Metropolis battle between Superman and General Zod. Whatever way Synder chooses to play out the story, the ultimate mystery on who will win the greatest battle in the superhero world remains unanswered at least until a few months from now.
Meanwhile, it was already confirmed that Batman will be making a cameo in another DC Comics-based film “Suicide Squad” and rumors that Lex Luthor will be making an appearance on the same movie are surfacing as well. While Superman will be a no-show in the highly-anticipated “Suicide Squad,” Movie UK reports that there’s a huge potential for Kal-el to make a cameo in the anti-hero film’s sequel too.
Speaking to Metro UK, Cavill stated that he might be making a cameo appearance for the sequel to “Suicide Squad.” The British actor also discussed the possibilities of his character starring in future films and sequels in the DC cinematic universe.
According to Cosmopolitan, Cavill also discusses his character’s situation when it comes to the love department. When asked to choose between Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Adams’ Lois Lane, the “Man from U.N.C.L.E.” actor avoided giving an answer saying that it requires a long discussion.

I hope Batman kicks his ass so badly that there will be no reason to make a Man of Steel 2.
