The latest eighth episode of “Rookie Blue” in its current season 6 was quite dramatic. A lot happened around various characters, and Gail in particular was forced to make a difficult choice, but in the end she pulled through and did what was right. Many critics have been particularly fond of this episode, claiming it to be one of the show’s stronger ones so far, and fans were also similarly pleased with what they saw, even though the episode was accompanied by a lot of drama.
Steve was discovered to be a dirty cop through an “integrity test” and this was a disappointment to pretty much every character around him, while some of the show’s fans also expressed their displeasure with this twist in the plot. Steve was a great member of the cast and some claimed that his character worked particularly well with Traci, which is one of the biggest reasons why they’ll be missed.
However, many fans also realized that this was an important moment in the development of the plot, and the story had to reach this state sooner or later. The whole way the downfall of Steve was portrayed was quite dramatic indeed, and it also showed how someone with a relatively clean character can fall victim to the world of corruption and betray his morals.
It did indeed start out as something small and relatively meaningless for Steve, but it quickly spiraled out of control as he was forced to take on greater and more dangerous tasks, and before he realized it, it was impossible for him to turn back.
It got to the point that people around Steve were actually afraid of his reaction once he discovered that he’d been compromised, which is why they decided to approach his arrest calmly and carefully. The most dramatic part was seeing Gail arresting her own brother, a moment which made many fans feel tense, judging by discussions around the Internet.
But that moment also served a very important role in the development of the plot, as it helped move Gail’s character forward significantly. She has now evolved beyond her original self and she will likely be much more self-aware and uncompromising in the future. Whether that’s good or bad, we don’t know – but it’s a development in her character for sure, and something that fans have been waiting for recently.
Gail suffers a lot after the whole ordeal, but she will likely get over it at some point and go on about her life. As we said above, her character will definitely change a lot in the future though, and we’re not going to see some of her more naïve sides, even though those were never that prominent in the first place.
Traci abandoned Steve as well, telling him that they’re completely done. This was another heartbreaking moment in this episode, and something that particularly touched some of the fans who were watching. Traci and Steve made a great on-screen couple, as we mentioned earlier, and their separation is going to be a major issue for some fans of the series.
Of course, it’s probably for the better for Traci herself, who’ll now have to find someone else, but at least she’ll know that she’s with someone who deserves her respect and admiration, instead of someone lying to her like Steve was. All in all, Steve’s betrayal will send ripples all throughout the plot of the show, and this is an event that will be talked about for a while.
