Sylvester Stallone personally knows Ronda Rousey, the reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion, because she joined them during the movie “The Expendables 3” shown last year.
Sly is obviously a fan of Rousey as a fighter in the octagon that he took her in to become the first female cast of the all-male ensemble of “The Expendables.”
So when the undefeated champ battled it out in the ring with the also undefeated Bethe Correia in Brazil on August 1, and the former defeated the latter in 34 seconds, Rousey is obviously in a class all her own.
Regardless of whether they are fans of the UFC sport or not, people have started recognizing that. For Stallone, Ronda is the greatest woman champion of the current era. At 28 years old, Rousey holds a mean 12-0 win-loss card in the UFC. The only thing remaining to be settled in the future is whether Rousey is the greatest woman fighter of all time, but she is definitely in the running for it.
Disposing 3 opponents in 64 seconds
Stallone threw the accolade on Ronda Rousey just minutes after Rowdy almost beat Correia into a pulp merely seconds into the first round of their five-round contest. Her last three victories in the octagon were all finished in under 35 seconds.
In fact, Rousey only spent a total of 64 seconds in disposing her last three opponents. She got rid of Alexis Davis during UFC 175 held in July last year in 16 seconds. At UFC 184 held on March 1 this year, she used the arm bar to make the previously undefeated Cat Zingano to submit in 14 seconds. She knocked out Bethe Correia at UFC 190 with her strike after 34 seconds that had to be stopped lest the Brazilian gets more beating.
With the fascination of Sly over the great fighting of Ronda, it is likely that he will cast her again should the production of “The Expendables 4” finally pushes through sometime in the near future. Everything seems to be quiet with regards to the movie although there are sporadic reports that Hulk Hogan, Jackie Chan, and Pierce Brosnan might be cast on the next movie of the successful action film franchise.
Returning to boxing
While production for “The Expendables 4” is still in the rumor mill, Stallone has just wrapped up filming for “Creed,” which stars Michael B. Jordan who plays Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed in the movie.
A trailer of the movie has already been released and it shows Stallone literally teaching Michael B. Jordan the ropes of good boxing as Rocky Balboa. “Creed” is a spin-off of Stallone’s “Rocky” movie series but is not a sequel. Reports have it that Stallone might do a film to finally put a closure on his “Rocky” character. The same is also being planned by the 68-year-old veteran actor for his other iconic movie character John Rambo possibly for a sixth and final Rambo film.
Apart from throwing praises to the veteran actor, Michael B. Jordan says that he really got in shape for the role in “Creed.” But unlike others who has to lose weight to get into the fighting form, he had to actually put on 24 pounds of muscle to play the role of Apollo Creed’s son so he had to take food a lot in between takes, details ABC News.
Stallone marked his 68th birthday on July 6. Although two years short of being 70 years old, it seems like the veteran action star still has plenty of gas left in his tank to do more.
He is still very much active in films and occasionally on television. He has been collaborating a lot with fellow action stars in his recent films including one with fellow action star and contemporary Arnold Schwarzenegger for the movie “The Escape Plan.” The two of them also appeared in “The Expendables” franchise and are in the same team of good guys.
There are some important things that fans need to know about the iconic action star that have not been known to most of them previously.
