Abigail Spencer has been having fun with her part on “True Detective”, and it looks like the actress looks at her position in quite the serious way, and is excited about the show in general, always ready to talk about her feelings on it and the way the plot has been moving recently. She’s also been running a weekly column where she reveals certain details about the show from her point of view, something which fans have been looking forward to reading every week.
She expressed some very positive feelings towards the way Colin Farrell has been performing on the show, claiming that he managed to capture the feelings of his character in a remarkable way, and she even sounded like she was caught off guard by the way he handled himself on the stage. The actress went as far as to say that she was “devastated” by his portrayal of Ray, which sounds like some serious praise for Farrell, and something that probably doesn’t surprise a great deal of his fans.
Spencer also talked about some difficulties she’s been facing recently with the filming of the show, as she also had to do work on “Rectify”, and her two roles got somewhat mixed up. In the end, she obviously managed to pull through with the challenge, but from her description it really does sound like it was a stressful ordeal.
Apparently, she was the one who wanted to be presented in a “dressed down” way, instead of showing up with tall boots with heels, which was the initial plan of the showrunners. In addition, she shared that she was using the music of “Balmorhea” to relax herself and prepare for filming “True Detective” after she was done with “Rectify”, which required her to travel from Georgia to Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, her character on “Rectify” has been facing some difficulties of her own, as she was trying to prove – to herself and everyone else – that she can do something worthwhile with her current job, so she decided to attend a manager seminar. However, this didn’t quite end up as the positive experience she was hoping for, and it seemed like some realizations about Amantha’s life started to dawn on her.
Critics have noted the sharp contrast in the way the scene was presented, particularly with regards to the clash between what those around Amantha felt about her revelation, and how it reflected on viewers of the show. This was a scene that fans have needed to see for a long time, according to some critics, and it was executed in a really good way, so it should have been a satisfying continuation of the story for many.
Overall, the press – and fans of “Rectify” – have been positive towards Abigail Spencer’s performance on the show, and many seem convinced that the actress is a perfect choice for this production. She has a lot of potential too, so we hope to see her realizing it to the fullest with many more solid performances in the coming weeks as she continues her work on both “Rectify” as well as “True Detective”.
Hopefully, the fact that she has to split her attention between both productions so often isn’t going to reflect negatively on her performance in either, as so far she has been delivering excellent work on all fronts. However, she has shown clearly that she’s a capable actress who knows how to handle herself in the industry, so we don’t expect to see her falling into such a trap.
