We’ve just seen the first official gameplay trailer for the new “Pro Evolution Soccer 2016” about a week ago, and it looks like “FIFA” is about to get some serious competition once again. The rivalry between the two titles goes back some time, and they both have their advantages and disadvantages in the way they approach the genre. And of course, they also have well-established communities that constantly debate over which game is better.
The trailer for the new entry in the “PES” series looks quite good, showing some impressive graphics and solid physics that should help create an immersive setting for its gameplay. It’s apparent that a lot of work has gone into polishing the game for its final release and it’s going to be a bit more flashy than previous installments in the franchise, but there’s certainly nothing bad about that.
A demo for the game is going to be released on August 13 for next-gen consoles as well as the previous models (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4), and the actual release of the game is to follow on September 15. It’s worth noting that this gives “PES” a one week head start before “FIFA” comes out on the 22nd, which should be of benefit to the studio if they want to get some extra exposure and popularity.
Of course, we don’t expect that they would be able to sway any “FIFA” fans just because of their earlier release date, but on the other hand, the game will be in the news for about one week uninterrupted, so it should be able to get noticed by anyone that might be interested in checking it out.
The current trailer is already making the rounds at various social media websites, and most people seem to agree that the game looks like a worthy sequel to the “PES” franchise. We don’t know many exact details about the gameplay yet, but it’s expect that “PES 2016” might come with some significant improvements to the physics engine, making the gameplay smoother and more immersive, while also creating new opportunities for more technical players.
Collisions in particular are reported to have been improved noticeably, and it should be easier to obtain the ball when there are multiple players around it now. Overall, the game will offer players a finer degree of control over where each of their players goes, and of course, where the ball is shot. There will be less reliance on random chance when deciding on the outcome of certain events, and the gameplay will be a bit more deterministic.
Which, in the end, should be a good change, because a game like this should be based primarily on skill and not on luck. Of course, some degree of chance and unpredictability is unavoidable if the game is to be fun after all, but the point is to have a fine balance in that, and ensure that gamers always feel like they’re completely in control over what’s going on.
There should be a noticeable improvement in the artificial intelligence as well, and players should be a bit more organized in the way they’re running around the field and chasing after the ball. This is something that has been requested by the community for a while now, as most gamers seem to find “FIFA” a more successful game in this regard. Still, the AI in “PES” isn’t bad by any means, it’s just a bit less polished than some players are wishing for.
