The main problem, from what we could tell, was related to the actor’s compensation – he was requesting a higher salary for his role in the new film, but according to reports, the studio was glad to comply and they agreed to the conditions that he laid out.
However, the film might not proceed exactly like some fans are expecting – we’ve also heard that Tony Stark would actually be retiring in “Iron Man 4”, and the film could be set some time in the future, showing Harley taking on his role instead. It’s still being speculated exactly how the cast is going to change, but there have been rumors that this change is not only happening, but it’s a very calculated move that sets new trends for the future sequels to the franchise.
It might actually be the case that Tony Stark is getting phased out as the Iron Man, and will be replaced more or less permanently. As for the release date of the new film, we have no idea when that is planned right now – the most prominent rumor right now claims that the studio is aiming to release it some time after “Marvel Phase 3” in 2019, and there have also been rumors that this will mark the end of the extended Marvel Cinematic Universe. While some fans have been disappointed at those rumors, there are still four years left to go until then, which is plenty of time to see additional developments in the Universe that could lead up to a satisfying conclusion.
