‘The Blacklist’ Season 3 to Break Open the Structure of the Show During its First 2 Seasons

Season 3 of the American crime drama TV series “The Blacklist” on NBC will hit the airwaves on September 24 and according to Megan Boone, the actress who plays Liz Keen, one of the lead characters in the show, the third season will deviate from the norm.

Boone reveals that Season 3 will break open the structure of the show, which it maintained during its first two seasons, notes Fashion & Style.

Following the events in the series finale of Season 2, where Liz Keen became a fugitive and her rights and privileges as an FBI profiler revoked, Season 3 will show her constantly running into the titular blacklisters of Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington, played by James Spader, cites Enstarz.

The actress disclosed that Keen is no longer working within the law which could make it tough for the series to stick with the same design.

During the first two seasons of the show, Red and Liz were hunting Red’s blacklist of global criminals almost every episode. With Liz already a fugitive, it certainly changes the complexion and direction of “The Blacklist” for its upcoming third season.

Boone said that if the task force is broken wide open, it will be challenging to try to find the procedural aspect of the show again. She added that the show has 22 episodes every year and it does help the series if it follows a certain formula, especially if it is proven to work.

What viewers should expect

According to James Spader, Season 3 could conceivably start the same day as the end of Season 2, citing that the new episodes of the upcoming season will throw all the pieces up in the air.

Latest leak reports, images, and videos of the upcoming Season 3 of the critically-acclaimed TV series, indicate that the first episode will have a title of “The Troll Farmer.” Accordingly, it will focus on a desk-bound CIA analyst volunteering to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer and prevent diabolical global disaster.

The second episode is titled “Marvin Girard,” which hints that the series will maintain its regular procedural format of searching for a different Blacklister every episode.

However, that may be the surprise that the show is planning to unravel especially now that the storyline already involves Liz as a fugitive.

Blown up the format

Jon Bokenkamp, the series creator, confirmed the pronouncement of Megan Boone when he said that they have blown up the format of “The Blacklist.” He said it is no longer like Red sitting down on a park bench with Liz and says his usual line that goes: ‘Here’s the Blacklister that I want you to go catch.

Bokenkamp assured fans that it will no longer be the format of the show when it returns to the small screens on September 24. Both Red and Liz are on the run as they are already fugitives from the law.

As to how long will they be running, particularly Liz as a former FBI profiler, there is still no details about it. But since they are the protagonists of the crime drama TV series, it is expected that the truth will eventually be known in Season 3 and both Liz and Red will return to the fold of the law.

The Blacklist - Season 1

While there will be a lot of plotlines to work on if they remain fugitives for the most part of Season 3, but “The Blacklist” also revolves around them and how they work well together in putting bad guys to where they belong.

The premise of “The Blacklist” begins with Red, a former US Naval Intelligence officer, who disappeared 20 years earlier to become one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives.
