PlayStation Plus: What Could Sony Be Planning for August, How Is the Service Holding Up?

When Sony’s PlayStation Plus service was announced, responses were very positive across the board, and many people were fond of the idea and couldn’t wait to give it a try. Now, some time has passed since it was originally launched, and PlayStation Plus is still enjoying a lot of popularity, with no prospects that this would change anytime soon.

While gamers are enjoying their July deals, some have been wondering what the company could be planning for next month’s deal lineup, as well as for the months beyond that. It’s pretty clear that Sony are trying to please everyone as much as possible, and it would be good to see them responding to gamers’ recent wishes for more AAA titles in the offers as well.

So far, even though the production quality of all games featured in PlayStation Plus has been good, some of the deals have been less than spectacular for gamers in general. We’ve seen titles like “Styx: Master of Shadows”, “Geometry Wars 3” and “Rain”, and gamers have been asking Sony to start adding more major titles to their offers.

We don’t know how the service is doing in terms of numbers, but we can imagine that if Sony aren’t seeing any problems attracting new people, then they may not see a need to change the types of games that they’re offering either. Still, this doesn’t mean that they couldn’t benefit in the way of getting even more customers to subscribe to PS+, no matter what the numbers are like at the moment.

We don’t know what titles Sony are planning to offer for August, but some popular guesses among gamers have included “Killzone: Shadowfall”, “Infamous: Second Son”, as well as “Knack”. Again, we have no idea if Sony have any plans for any of those titles, but we also see some of them as quite likely for the next release of special deals.

It’s worth noting that some gamers might not be too excited to see “Knack” in there, as the game didn’t exactly come out to universal acclaim, but on the other hand it could still benefit from some extra exposure, and definitely had some merits for gamers who enjoy certain types of gameplay.

Meanwhile, some critics have been taking a deeper look at what PlayStation Plus has to offer in general, questioning whether the service has a future and if it’s worth investing in it for most gamers. On one hand, it does offer quite a lot of good deals, but on the other, it’s also not quite as expansive, as, say, Netflix is for films and TV shows.

Then again, that might not be the main purpose of PlayStation Plus, and it’s rather intended to be a premium service that provides gamers with access to a few extra games per month in order to allow them to spice up their collections without having to spend a lot of money or risking making bad purchases.

And in this regard, it’s doing quite well, and anytime someone mentions PlayStation Plus, it’s usually in a pretty positive light. Gamers don’t have too many complaints about the way the service is run as a whole, other than the aforementioned issue with the selection of AAA titles that’s available. But of course, that could also change over time as Sony keep taking in more feedback for the service and adjusting it so it matches the public’s requests more closely.
