‘Extant’ Season 2 to Make a Major Restart to Boost Plummeting Ratings Amid Halle Berry

The Steven Spielberg-produced TV series “Extant” on CBS will make a major restart for Season 2 and a change in time slot to boost its plummeting ratings and give it a better shot at having a third season.

Despite the involvement of Steven Spielberg and the Academy Award winner Halle Berry as its lead star, “Extant” has not been doing well on the rating game, or at least its first Season. It certainly does not come off well on the reputable personalities like Spielberg and Berry.

CBS just announced that starting next week, ‘Extant’ will take ‘Criminal Minds’ time slot during Wednesday nights, leading the police drama to follow after. According to Cartermatt, the network is trying its best to give “Extant” some better ratings and open the possibility for a crack at a Season 3.

During last week’s ComicCon 2015, producers of the show including leads Halle Berry and new cast member Jeffrey Dean Morgan sat down the panel to elaborate more on where the show will be headed in Season 2. Speaking to ET Online, Morgan, who plays JD Richter, tells more about his cop role in the sci-fi series. The 49-year-old actor admits that the mere fact that he gets to co-star with Halle Berry has sealed the deal for him to agree to become part of the show.

Berry, for her part, is excited that her character, Molly Wood, is finally getting some action in the love department despite being married last season. During the ComicCon panel, producers were eager to talk about the pair’s chemistry saying they are excited for fans to see for themselves how sparks fly between the two characters.

The Steven Spielberg-produced series has made a huge restart for Season 2 as it has done away with Camryn Manheim’s Dr. Sam Barton and welcoming Morgan into the show. Speaking to TV Guide, showrunner Mickey Fisher says the reboot for the sophomore season was a way to engage fans to watch the show even though they haven’t fully watched the first season.

Fisher adds that they wanted to give birth to the series again and that the season premiere will already fill those new to the show about what happened during Season 1. Berry says she respects the decision of the producers on the move and welcomes all the changes the show will be undergoing.

Show’s executive producer, Craig Shapiro adds that the show will literally be more grounded this season, sticking mainly to earth with the locations. Shapiro also admits that they already have planned the perfect ending this season and that’s putting Berry’s Storm days back in action.

The X-Men alum might use her former stunts as she will come head to head in a kick-ass fight scene during the series finale. Producers are still mum on who her big enemy will be, but they assure that the scene will be the perfect way to end the season.

During the first season, the story centered on her astronaut character after a 13-month mission aboard space station Seraphim. She comes home to her humanoid robot son Ethan, played by Pierce Gagnon, who was created by her engineer husband John Woods, played by Goran Visnjic, as part of the Humanichs project. Molly eventually finds out that she was impregnated by an alien during her stay in outer space.

By the end of the first season, her robot son sacrificed himself to save Molly and her alien offspring was taken by a couple who took the baby in their care. The second season will pick up some six months after the Season 1 finale with Molly being kept in a mental institution because of the drastic events that took place. During that particular episode of Season 1, it was revealed that Ethan is actually alive and well.

Meanwhile, actress Halle Berry definitely proved she looks stunning in black. The Academy Award-winning actress recently graced the ESPY Awards’ red carpet in a lace and leather black dress. The Daily Mail says the actress was indeed channeling her inner catwoman with her smoky eyes and her dress being tight in all the right places, not to mention her hairstyle rocking the perfect beach waves. The dress highlighted the star’s great figure and toned legs especially with how it was capped off with a pair of black stilettos.
