When Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios forged that historic agreement in February this year, it finally opened the gate for Spider-Man to cross over to the Marvel cinematic universe.
While the web-slinging superhero has always been a mainstay of Marvel comics from several decades back, Sony Pictures got the cinematic rights to the character at a time when doing movies was farthest from the mind of Marvel.
With Sony’s decision to partly abdicate its cinematic rights on Spider-Man to Marvel Studios, the film company has also put the clamps on the long-rumored “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” film that would have starred Andrew Garfield yet again.
Apart from picking the right actor to take on the role of Peter Parker and Spider-Man, Marvel also buckled down to work to come up with the perfect costume for the wall-climbing superhero.
Awesome costume
Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada revealed during the ComicCon 2015 that the studio was right on target as far as the new costume of Spider-Man is concerned because what they come up with was really awesome. Quesada said that the costume was so awesome that it will surely blow people away, reports Newsarama.
The Marvel official added that he has seen a lot of the design work that’s been done on the costume and he can attest that there are elements in the costume that are really going to blow people away.
Quesada said that eventually fans will quip in unison ‘Ah, that’s Marvel doing Spider-Man!’ If there is one person who can speak with authority on Spider-Man and his costume, it’s no other than Joe Quesada. He contributed heavily to Spider-Man in comic books over the years, taking on the role of editor, artist, and sometimes as writer too.
He explained that he knows Kevin Feige and his team and they all have some great ideas, and some wonderful theories that he merely chimed in.
New actor for ‘Spidey’
As Spider-Man went from the Sony to the Marvel stable, it was also understood that Marvel will be doing a reboot of the film franchise and thus a new set of actors will be cast in the film.
Marvel Studios and Sony Entertainment have formally buried the persistent rumors about the “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” by officially casting Tom Holland to take on the role of Peter Parker and the web-slinging superhero for the “Spider-Man” movie reboot which will hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
Although the “Spider-Man” movie reboot will be the third live-action iteration of the character, it shall only be now that the wall-climbing superhero will be able to play in the same sandbox as Iron Man, Captain America, among other Avengers. That is because the new Spider-Man is now part of the Marvel cinematic universe following the agreement between Marvel Studios and Sony Entertainment forged in February this year.
But to spice things up for the “Spider-Man” reboot movie, Tom Holland will actually make his debut as the web-slinging superhero in next year’s “Captain America: Civil War,” where he will be formally introduced to his fellow Avengers.
According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, director Jon Watts shall make the “Spider-Man” movie reboot unique to make it different from the five live-action films that were already shown from 2002 until last year.
As the focus of the movie is about Peter Parker being in high school, Feige said that they will pick up a lot of pointers from the movies of famed director John Hughes who was known for a lot of beloved teen films back in the 80s.
In a recent interview, the Marvel Studios boss said that the high school setting and the supporting characters will make the movie quite interesting, saying that it’s time to relive a John Hughes movie once again.
