A lot is possibly coming in the fourth season of “Orange Is the New Black”, and even though we don’t know the exact release date of the new episodes yet, it looks like fans are more than willing to wait as they’ve been getting some pretty interesting news about the season in the meantime. Currently, it’s expected that we’ll see the new episodes sometime in 2016, but that’s just a speculation. It’s a Netflix production, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it was ready even earlier.
Last time, in season 3, we saw Daya giving birth to her daughter and she decided to raise her herself, instead of giving her to the mother of George Mendez. However, later in that episode Cesar went down and all the kids were taken in by child services, which left the fate of Daya’s newborn under a big question mark.
There is pretty much only one place she could turn to for help now that John Bennet is gone from her life, and that’s Mendez’s mother Delia Powell. She previously offered to take in Daya’s baby, even after she found out about the true father of the child – and she seemed quite devastated when she was told that the baby was stillborn. With all that in mind, it looks like she would be a good choice for taking care of the baby, and she’s certainly one of the more generous and responsible characters in the picture.
The departure of Bennett was a surprise to many, but it looks like it’s been planned for some tie already. This was claimed by McGorry, who said that it’s all part of effective storytelling, and that it was important for viewers to be baited into getting emotionally attached to the relationship. It was a nice romance, but in the end it was doomed to fail – but in the end, there was also something very real about the way it turned out.
In addition, the relationship between an inmate and a guard is an interesting topic, but it doesn’t have to be a problem by default – it’s only a problem if it’s made into one by the circumstances. This is something that was explored in a bit more detail towards the end of season 3, and fans have been hopeful that they’ll get to see this part of the story touched even more in the next season.
We don’t know if Bennett is coming back, and it’s entirely possible that the story could swing in both directions. McGorry stated that it’s entirely up to the writers to decide that, and it’s possible that he might end up disappointing the viewers.
On the other hand, it’s also possible that it will turn out that McGorry is the man everyone was hoping he was. It would make for a nice story arc, but then again, so would the opposite. At this point it’s really up to the writers to determine where they want to take the story next, but both options are a possibility.
Of course, this is also a topic that has been discussed very actively by the show’s fans, and it’s one of the main topics for speculation for the new season. Interestingly enough, it looks like the show’s fans are somewhat split over whether they want to see McGorry coming back or not, so it looks like both ideas have their merits, it’s just something that has to be executed carefully.
