There’s still some time until “Star Wars: Battlefront” is here, but we’ve already been getting some interesting information about the game. Even though there is some controversy surrounding it, and not all players are happy with the changes that have been introduced to the formula, the overall reception to the previews so far has been positive. It looks like this is another major hit coming up, and there will be various aspects of this game that could make it the next big thing in gaming.
Recently, someone leaked new footage from the alpha version of the game – it’s supposed to be under NDA and players aren’t allowed to share their gameplay, but it’s pretty hard to enforce something like that of course. The original videos were quickly taken down by EA, but mirrors started popping up all over the Internet, and players were very eager to share the videos.
Details that we know about the game from the alpha version include a list of several weapons, such as the E11, A280, DH17, DL44, DLT19, DLT20a, EE3 and the Rocket Launcher. It should be noted that some of those weapons are apparently limited to certain characters, like the EE3 which is going to be exclusive to Boba Fett from the looks of it.
On the other hand, there will be lots of vehicles included as well, like the T-65 X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Lambda Shuttle and more, including the Y-Wing. The presence of some spaceships on the battlefield itself has been the target for some of the criticisms aimed at the game, as players were not happy with the removal of space battles.
Still, the game is now a bit more compact and everything takes place in the same area, which should actually open up the doors to more interesting tactics and the use of multiple players to achieve the same goal with a push from many sides. Of course, this could have been implemented with the presence of space battles as well, but the current system isn’t really bad by itself.
Another thing that the game will bring, according to the leaks from the alpha, will be a good range of emotes for players to choose from and express themselves with. This is becoming a standard feature in online games, especially shooters, and we’re likely going to see an even more interesting implementation in some game down the road.
It’s not just about the cosmetic effect of having it, as it can bring a tactical element to the game, allowing players to communicate with each other more effectively than just with chatting or voice commands, and it can make the battlefield look more lively as well.
Players will also get the opportunity to customize their characters quite extensively, and it looks like everyone will be able to choose their own style of playing and approach the game exactly how they want to. We don’t know exactly how much Storm Troopers will be customizable, but it looks like there will be plenty of options for their unique features.
All in all, it looks like EA are definitely putting some extra effort into this game, despite the initial criticism that their decisions drew. Players might not agree with everything the company is doing with the franchise, but they at least seem to be trying to develop it into a proper game and aren’t exploiting the brand name. Of course, the actual release will show whether or not this is actually true, as it’s possible that it could be a disappointing release.
