To those who were born in the 80s and back, they know and remember Macaulay Culkin as the child actor of the very successful “Home Alone” movie series back in the early 90s.
Culkin was the lad who put life into the creative mischief of Kevin McCallister in taking on the wet bandits all by himself. He basically resorted to his ingenuity in fending off the assaulting bad guys and saved Christmas in the process for him and his family.
But that was way too long ago as Macaulay Culkin has already retired from acting a little over five years after that back-to-back stint with the “Home Alone” movie franchise. While he did a couple more movies that also earned money in the box office, the lasting impression of him of moviegoers is that of Kevin McCallister.
Now at 34 years of age, Culkin is no longer remembered as the child star known for his mischievous efforts in “Home Alone.” He has found himself trying his hand at the least thought of music career with a band called The Pizza Underground, who parodies the songs played by The Velvet Underground but with pizza-themed lyrics, notes What Culture.
Culkin and his group are not gifted singers so their four-piece band are often being booed on and off stage, soaked in beer, and generally hated by fans of The Velvet Underground. But the former child actor was the one who actually formed the band back in 2012, fronted previously by Lou Reed. When Reed died the following year, Culkin and his band decided to carry on with their music career.
Some of their music includes “Take a Bite of the Wild Slice” which is a parody of The Velvet Underground’s “Take a Walk on the Wild Side,” and “All the Pizza Parties” which was a comical take on the song “All Tomorrow’s Parties.”
While Macaulay’s foray into music may not have been the biggest low point of his career, it definitely sticks out like a sore thumb as something which have not been given plenty of thought before acting on it.
UK concert tour
Sometime in May, people of Reading in England recalled the visit of former child star Macaulay Culkin when he and his comedy rock group The Pizza Underground for a performance at the Oakford Social Club along Blagrave Street exactly one year ago.
The Pizza Underground uses pizza boxes as their percussion instruments while people dressed as cats were among the features of the performance of Macaulay Culkin and his rock group that night as part of their UK tour last year.
The New York-based comedy rock band largely parody songs by The Velvet Underground with pizza-themed song names and lyrics, reports Get Reading of the UK.
Macaulay Culkin plays the kazoo and sings in the acoustic band. While the group was warmly received in Reading that night, the reception in other places in the UK was not as welcome. In fact, in Nottingham, they were booed by fans while on stage so the group was forced to end their performance and cut short their UK tour.
25 years and counting
Speaking of a trip down memory lane, it has been 25 years since Macaulay Culkin had that breakout role in “Home Alone” as a child actor. But to those who have witnessed his foray into the big screen and rather short-lived stint in Hollywood, it appears to be only just a few short years back.
2015 actually marks the 25th anniversary of Macaulay Culkin’s defining Hollywood moment through “Home Alone” as the 34-year-old was spotted sometime in March smoking and strolling all by his lonesome in New York City.
Sporting then his best grandpa suit to go with his facial hair, combat boots, and ponytail, it only showed that a lot has changed for Macaulay since “Home Alone” was released to worldwide theaters in 1990.
