Surprising Success of ‘Fallout Shelter’ as a Mobile Game Further Bolsters the Hype on Fallout 4!

Game developer Bethesda Softworks surprised fans and gamers during the recently-concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015 when it announced and released the mobile installment of the “Fallout” franchise called “Fallout Shelter” for iOS.

While it was the first foray of Bethesda into the mobile gaming market, “Fallout Shelter” quickly made it to the top of the App Store chart immediately after it was released and it was even holding the No. 3 spot in terms of revenue for several days, reports Gamespot.

Currently, “Fallout Shelter” is still the No. 10 top-grossing iOS game weeks after it was released and Bethesda could not be happier since the company was not planning for the game to give top mobile games like “Game of War,” “Clash of Clans,” or “Boom Beach” a serious run for the money. But apparently, the game is doing just that which is the surprising part for the Bethesda, cites Gamasutra.

According to Pete Hines, Vice President for Marketing of Bethesda, they have already developed “Fallout Shelter” long before but they had to wait for the studio announcement of “Fallout 4” during the E3 2015 because they would probably get lynched by the millions of gamers and fans who have long been waiting for the role-playing game on the gaming consoles and the PC.

During the E3 2015, Bethesda made a lot of new reveals about “Fallout 4” at its pre-event press conference including the official announcement that the video game will hit the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on November 10.

Bethesda also announced during the event that while “Fallout Shelter” was released initially for the iOS devices, the company is apparently working on making the game available on Android devices too very soon.

Got more than what it wanted

The game developer actually got more than what it wanted with the unexpected success of the “Fallout Shelter” on iOS devices.

Apart from further bolstering the hype on the upcoming “Fallout 4,” as it moves to its release date, it has also opened up great opportunities for the company to foray into the mobile gaming market in the near future.

To show proof that it was really surprise with the romp of “Fallout Shelter” in the mobile gaming market, Bethesda actually does not have any plans of any marketing strategy for the game. Top of their list was doing commercials in the future just like what the top mobile games are doing, and now the company is seriously working to shape its mobile gaming strategy as a result of its successful experiment.

There are also rumors or speculations that Bethesda might consider launching a mobile game version of its other successful role-playing game franchise “The Elder Scrolls.”

Not chasing the money

But Hines and the development teams at Bethesda would simply not be lured into going with the tide because they said they are not chasing the money but more on coming up with something that is fun and enjoyable and will be loved by gamers.

Hines said that Bethesda would like to be prepared first for the possible problems that “Fallout Shelter” may encounter along the way as the company’s initial foray into the mobile gaming market rather than venture immediately and follow up on the success of their experiment because they do not want to disappoint gamers.
