Apple iPhone 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Alpha: Battle of the Superphones

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is now being considered as the most stylish flagship device ever to be released by the Korean electronics giant. It was first announced back in August 2014 and released around a month back in September this year.

The phone comes with a 4.7-inch display, and it seems to be treading on the whole new iPhone territory.  It faces a serious amount of competition from the iPhone 6 which is a newer phone. Let us, therefore, compare these two devices based on their technical specifications and additional features.

Display:

When it comes to the display, the new Apple iPhone 6 and the Alpha have a similar 4.7 inch screen. However, the pixel density on the iPhone 6 certainly appears better than that of the Alpha. The pixel density on the iPhone 6 is 326 ppi (at a resolution of 1344 x 750), which is greater than that of the Alpha at 312 ppi (720P).

Processor:

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has the behemoth Exynos 5430 Octa-core chipset incorporated in it. The device has two different groups of four cores each. When the device is running in a normal situation, it draws power from the four 1.3GHz Cortex A7 Cores.

When greater performance is required, it will start to utilize the remaining four 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 CPUs. The Galaxy Alpha also comes with a complete 2GB RAM on board.

Things on the Apple iPhone 6 also look clean and fresh with its new A8, custom-designed 64-bit chipset. Compared to the eight cores in the Samsung, this device will only make use of 2 cores. However, according to Apple, this new device is about 25% faster in its processing performance and 50% faster in the GPU aspect compared to that of the iPhone 5S. The iPhone 6 also comes with a lower 1GB of RAM.

Storage:

When it comes to storage, it seems that both the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and the Apple iPhone 6 have ditched the presence of any expandable memory support. Both devices come with a fixed inbuilt memory with the iPhone offering more variants. The Alpha comes only with 32GB internal storage option while the iPhone offers 16GB, 64GB and 128GB options.

Camera:

Apple has stuck to its usual 8 megapixel camera in the iPhone 6 like its predecessor. The company is, however, striving to maintain and improve the software algorithm, as well as the optics in the camera aspect.

There are updated features in the f/2.2 aperture lens and the two-tone LED flash. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha, on the other hand, has a greater 12 megapixel sensor with the same lens aperture. In the secondary camera scene, the iPhone 6 has a 1.2 megapixel camera compared to the 2.1 in the Alpha.
