‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ is Both a Bigger and Smaller Movie than the First, Says Director James Gunn

During the recently-concluded Saturn Awards, Director James Gunn of “Guardians of the Galaxy” was asked for updates on the sequel of the surprise Marvel hit last year.

Gunn said that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is a more emotional movie than the first, hinting that there might be some heartfelt moments in the film. But that would be very short-lived for sure given the comical nature of the characters of the Guardians, most especially Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill who also calls himself as Star Lord.

Of course everyone wanted to know how Chris Pratt would highlight the film once again since he is fresh from the resounding success in the box office of “Jurassic World,” which has surely raised both his value as an actor and also his popularity and bankability, notes Variety.

The director explained that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will be both bigger and smaller movie compared to the first because it shall apparently focus intensely on the characters of the film more than their adventures together in space.

He also hinted that the sequel will also deal a lot about fathers which means Peter Quill might get to know who his real father is and so are the other characters, details DNA India.

Gunn said that the sequel shall be based primarily on Marvel’s greater mythology and shall likely provide answers to lineage questions raised in the first film.

The 44-year-old director has also disclosed that he has completed the first draft of the script of the sequel early this month. Scheduled to hit theaters in May 2017 still, filming will begin in February next year featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper.

Casting coup

There have been reports as early as May that Director Gunn has started talking to a certain actor trying to convince him to take on a role and become a new member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Since the director refused to divulge the identity of the actor, it quite naturally set off rumors and speculations, the loudest among which is that the actor is the Oscar-winning and legendary Al Pacino.

James Gunn, Al Pacino, or Marvel Studios has yet to make any announcement or statement to either confirm or deny the report so most of the information flying around should be subjected to thorough scrutiny.

New Guardians

There have also been reports that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” shall have two new female characters who shall join the Guardians in their quest.

Any of these two female characters may likely be from outer space. Based on the Marvel Comics, any two of these characters may turn up in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” including Mantis, Moondragon, Phyla Vell, and Angela.
