HTC just announced that the new HTC Desire 816 will be receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update soon. With this news, the phablet is becoming a strong competitor among the mid-range devices in the market.

HTC is slowly rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to their other devices. It can already be seen on the HTC One M9 and the HTC One M8. They started the roll out with the HTC Desire E8 and the Butterfly S last April. Other leaked reports suggest that HTC will be pushing the update on other devices like the HTC One Max, One Mini 2 and One Mini.

A delight for many users

The HTC Desire 816 has been a delight for many users since it has a very impressive screen capacity. With a 5.5-inch display, it has a high-definition 720-pixel screen resolution. The phablet’s dimensions are 156.6 x 78.7 x 7.9 mm which is pretty slick in its own right. It only weighs 165 grams which mean it is lightweight for its size.

It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor that clocks at 1.6 GHz, with quad-core CPUs. The HTC Desire 816 has impressed users who mostly use the phone for gaming and for YouTube.

The HTC Desire 816 also has a slick unibody design which is made of plastic and is available in five different colors. The device also has two stereo speakers with eight holes each. Comparably, the HTC phablet is thinner than its market competitor, Note 3 Neo which is about 7.9 mm.

The HTC Desire 816 offers a digital compass and an internal GPS antenna with GLONASS. It is powered by the HTC BoomSound and the Sense Voice. It has a 13-megapixel BSI Sensor rear camera and a five-megapixel BSI sensor front snapper which can both support 1080-pixel video recording.

For its power source, the HTC Desire 816 has a 2600 mAh battery, which can be used for up for 21 hours of talk time and 737 hours of standby time.

The product has also been closely compared to the Samsung Galaxy A7. Though the Galaxy A7 has a couple of advantages over the HTC Desire 816, many users have preferred the HTC product since it is cheaper. Both smartphones are offering LTE capabilities. Not all smartphones have this yet but since there is a growing number of LTE subscribers, people can expect a big transition of LTE-capable phones.
