That happened in April, and since then we haven’t heard much about their relationship. Some of the rumors claimed that it wasn’t actually a full-on breakup, but rather a temporary break, but the exact nature of the situation wasn’t really clear.
After a while, we heard an additional rumor, claiming that Emma Stone had been seen carrying a paper bag with Andrew Garfield’s name on it, which led many to believe that the two weren’t actually breaking up. And indeed, Emma Stone made no attempt to conceal the bag, so it seems like she wants to make it clear that the two of them are staying together.
And recently, Emma Stone confirmed this herself in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, stating that she really has no plans to break up with Andrew Garfield at the moment, and they would be staying together.
She also went in some detail on her views on discussing her relationship publicly. According to her, it’s not a good idea for someone in her position to try refuting rumors too actively, as they always have the tendency to come back. And in the end, engaging in those conversations seems to draw even more attention to them, something else that some celebrities don’t seem to consider.
The actress also talked about the paper bag situation, explaining that she wasn’t actually purposefully seeking attention, but she did consider the situation and thought about how funny it would be. She is, after all, aware of being watched over by paparazzi all the time, and she realized that she could have some fun with them if she ran around with that bag.
Stone admitted that this could be a form of rebelliousness that came in response to the constant discussions about her and her relationship, and she doesn’t seem to regret doing it at all. In the end, she says that if something that’s being discussed about her is obviously false, she would rather let it be false.
Now, after this interview, combined with some recent photos showing the couple together, it’s probably safe to assume that the breakup rumors were false and we won’t be hearing about the couple separating anytime soon. On the other hand, they haven’t talked much about the current status of their relationship, so it’s entirely possible that there are some problems in the background which we don’t know about. If that’s true, it should come to the surface sooner or later anyway.
