Elizabeth Banks got some very good responses to her work on “Pitch Perfect 2”, and most agreed that she did a great job on the film. Now that “Pitch Perfect 3” is underway, many were expecting that they would see her working her magic once again – but it looks like the reality is a bit different, as she is apparently eyeing some other projects at the moment.
Fans and critics weren’t the only ones impressed with how Elizabeth Banks handled her work on “Pitch Perfect 2”, from what we can tell, as Universal themselves have also been keeping an eye on her and have been discussing a project of their own with Banks – an adaptation of “Red Queen”, the novel by Victoria Aveyard. Banks has apparently accepted the deal and is going to work alongside Max Handelman, while the script is being written by none other than Gennifer Hutchison of “Breaking Bad” fame.
In “Red Queen”, we see the story of a 17-year-old girl living in a world where society is structured entirely around blood. Those who have been born with silver blood are ranked highly, regarded as the upper class and they even have superhuman capabilities. On the other hand, red-blooded humans are lower class and they are born as servants to their silver-blooded counterparts.
As we can guess, the protagonist in the novel is a Red, and she’s an absolute commoner, someone who has to live on whatever life throws her way. She often resorts to stealing in order to survive and see another day, but one day she is brought up in front of a Silver Court, where she faces a group of nobles, princes and kings.
While this initially seems like the start of a lot of trouble for her, it’s actually quite the opposite – she is revealed to have special powers of her own, and she is drawn into a world of intrigue and mystery in the palace of the king.
There have been talks in the community of fans of “Red Queen” for some time now, with many people convinced of the book’s strong potential for a screen adaptation, and it seems this is finally about to happen. We don’t know how the production will be structured yet, but we can only assume that Universal are going to try to get as much out of it as possible.
Is the new production going to be successful? Elizabeth Banks working on it should say quite a lot by itself – but not everyone is apparently convinced of her ability to contribute something positive.
