There Would Have Been a ‘Hart of Dixie’ Season 5 if Series Creator Had Her Way

If creator Leila Gerstein only had her way, there would have been a fifth season of the American comedy-drama TV series “Hart of Dixie.” In fact, the series could even go up to Season 17.

Unfortunately, Gerstein did not have her way so when The CW cancelled the show a few weeks after the series finale of Season 4 aired on March 27, everything was a wrap for the well-loved “Hart of Dixie.”

But the decision of the network no longer came as a surprise to Gerstein or the other cast members of the show because apparently as early as October last year, many of them already knew that Season 4 would be the last for the series.

That was precisely the reason why the series finale of Season 4 proved to be a happy ending for everyone in the show, with all the questions finally answered, and all issues resolved, even the minute ones.

After The CW formally announced its decision to cancel the show in May, Gerstein actually posted on Twitter that she would have gone 17 years doing the show. Unfortunately, the network thinks that “Hart of Dixie” was only good for four seasons and that was it. It had its good run and it was quite fun while it lasted.

“Hart of Dixie” was one of The CW’s best performers on Hulu online streaming service, but that just was not enough for the network to give it another chance, reports Perez Hilton.com

As for the show’s throng of fans, the series may have not been renewed but it shall definitely live in their hearts for a long time.

They already knew it

The production team and cast members of “Hart of Dixie” already knew that there will be no Season 5 for the show even before it aired its series finale for Season 4.

So while fans were still waiting for the fate of the show after Season 4, the people behind the series are already aware that they are not coming back for a fifth season.

So when The CW finally cancelled the show last month, the stars were no longer surprised. It was actually the loyal fans of “Hart of Dixie” who got surprised with the cancellation as they have been patronizing the show since it started airing in 2011.

Reports then started going around that the decision of The CW network to cancel the show has something to do with the choice of show lead star Rachel Bilson not to return for the possible fifth season of the series to spend more quality time with her newly-born baby daughter Briar Rose with long-time boyfriend Hayden Christensen. But basically, for The CW network, it’s all about the ratings game.

A foreboding

Gerstein also hinted of the end of the road for “Hart of Dixie” when she repeatedly encouraged fans to catch the final episodes of the series.

As early as October last year, some of the stars of the series have also alluded in social media that Season 4 would be the last for “Hart of Dixie.”
