‘Captain America: Civil War’ Will Divide the Avengers as Government Agencies Attempt to Put a Leash on Superheroes

Filming for the third installment of the “Captain America” movie began only last month but even before the cameras started rolling, there have already been countless rumors and speculations on the plotlines, possible villain, and cast of characters of the film.

One thing is sure at this point, Chris Evans will reprise his Steve Rogers role for the fourth time in about three years, counting the two “Avengers” movies.

The third Captain America movie will be officially titled “Captain America: Civil War” and it is scheduled to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.

Another thing that is certain is the plotline that government agencies will attempt to put a leash on the Marvel superheroes through the so-called Superhero Registration Act. This has been cited from way back and it is also the same storyline in the Marvel comics.

Dividing the Avengers

According to Digital Spy, “Captain America: Civil War” which is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America will be pitted against Iron Man and Tony Stark, to be played naturally by Robert Downey Jr.

Tony Stark and Iron Man will be on the side of the Superhero Registration Act while Steve Rogers and Captain America will be against it, and thus the kicker title ‘Civil War.’

The Civil War will have the other Avengers superheroes, expected to appear in the film, being caught in between, including Black Widow, to be played by Scarlett Johansson, Falcon, to be played by Anthony Macky, Vision, to be played by Paul Bettany, Hawkeye, to be played by Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, to be played by Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, to be played by Paul Rudd, and War Machine, to be played by Don Cheadle.

Quite noticeably however, Nick Fury, played by Samuel Jackson in the past two “Captain America” films will not appear in the third movie.

Other casting reports

It has also been reported that Martin Freeman would not be playing a superhero but could taking on the role as the UK prime minister in “Captain America: Civil War” particularly in scenes when the Avengers mission to the UK goes haywire.

Freeman has previously been linked to the Marvel comics character Everett Ross, a US government official who is a policy adviser on Black Panther’s fictional homeland called Wakanda.

In the first “Captain America” movie, the Captain’s nemesis was Hydra. In the second installment titled “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” it was his good old friend Bucky who turned to become the winter soldier.

Crossbones played by Frank Grillo, is also a bad guy in the second movie but he was not the main villain of the film. From initial reports about the plot of “Captain America: Civil War,” it was said that Crossbones will be the main villain of the movie.

  1. I didn’t realize the producers want “Elizabeth Olsen to be played by Scarlet Witch.” This should be interesting.
