The premium smartphone segment is never short of players. Even in the worst economic downfall, these premium segment smartphones manage to outsell other mid-range products. We compare three flagship products from the big three in the telecom industry to check which one comes out victorious.
Apple iPhone 5S:
We start off with the biggie that needs no introduction. The Apple iPhone 5S was the Cupertino giant’s flagship till a month ago. The iPhone – not just a smartphone – measures 123.80 x 58.60 x 7.60 mm and weights just 112 grams.
It is powered by a 1,570 mAh battery and boasts of a 4-inch display packing in 640 x 1,136 pixel resolution. The iPhone’s 326ppi density gives viewers a color-rich video viewing experience. It draws power from Apple’s 1.3 GHz dual-core A7 processor (64-bit ARMv8) and features 1 GB of RAM.
It is available in 16, 32 and 64 GB variants but is not expandable via an SD card slot. It sports an 8 MP primary camera alongside a 1.2 MP secondary camera. It runs on Apple iOS 7 and does not support Java.
Nokia Lumia 1520:
The Nokia Lumia 1520 is one of the most powerful devices from the Finnish telecom giant. It measures 162.80 x 85.40 x 8.70 mm and weighs 209 grams. It is by far the heaviest device of the three.
It draws power from a 3,400 mAh unit and sports a 6-inch display with 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution. It boasts of 16M color definition and 368ppi. Although, the pixel density is more than that on the iPhone, the latter sports a 4-inch screen as compared to the former.
It draws power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and sports 2 Gigs of RAM alongside 32 GB of built-in storage. It support external MicroSD and is expandable up to 64 GB.
Nokia markets the Lumia 1520 as a smart camera that can make calls. Hence, this device boasts of a 20 MP primary camera with a 1.2 MP secondary camera. It runs on Windows 8 and does not support Java.
Samsung Galaxy S5:
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been a sensation in numerous aspects and rivals Apple’s iPhone 5S on multiple platforms. However, where does it stand in the actual face-off? We find out.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 measures 142 x 72.50 x 8.10 mm and weighs 145 grams. It draws power from a 2,800 mAh battery and sports a 5.1-inch display with 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution. It packs in 16M color definition alongside 432ppi density.
It is powered by a 1.9 GHz octa core Exynos Octa 5420 processor and features 2 GB of RAM alongside 16 GB of built-in storage. It is expandable up to 128 GB. The S5 sports a 16 MP primary camera with a 2.1 MP secondary camera and runs on Android v4.4.2.
